After watching this I think that I am one of those that are very excited about it... I did the CCNA many years ago and was working towards recertification, but illness got in the way and I couldn't do it before the course changed, but now I'm thinking what a blessing because now I can look at the CCNP route and choose the flavour of professional that I want to be, what I'm interested in and that's so much more interesting than having to study something because that's what you have to do to get the qualification, I can be individual at the specialist level, but still have that core knowledge required... AWESOME!!!

When the new CCNP test came out (current version in 2019) I crushed all 3 of them. I moved up fast to the engineer level. Fast forward 3 years later with much design, config and install experience. I failed the Switch test to recert. I studied my a$$ off. Clearly I know more about route-switch now with my advanced experience in the field. Got a feeling it will be the case with the new test. Testing is one thing. Actually installing in live production environment, with a makes sense logical manor are two different things.

I’ve had a CCNA and went to CCSP when they had it. All my stuff is expired and the exact reason I don’t get any more certifications is because I have to go back and get my CCNA. I’ve been a network engineer 15 years now so I really don’t need any certifications but I would like to get a CCNP at times but having to start over pretty much ruins it for me. This may help people in my situation but for newcomers I highly suggest getting the CCNA first.

Same here.. CCNA R&S cert'd at Cisco Live in San Diego 4yrs ago, failed the CCNP by skin of my teeth right before NA exp'd. Been in networking for 20+yrs and don't really need it so not re-certifying anymore. On top of that the exams are far too expensive anymore.

Trent McKee Trent McKee interesting. Sounds familiar. One thing that does interest me is the new CCNA stuff with programming and SDN or whatever. What do you think about that path and where things seem to be headed? Kind of interested in the API stuff but kinda lost on it all as a whole lol. What do you think about that side of things?

When my CCNP expired, the main reason i didn’t renew was that it was a requirement to go all the way back and take the CCNA track all over again too. That never made sense to me and seemed like just a way for Cisco to make more money, so i never renewed. Now i can just take the CCNP and renew!

I understand the skip in needing CCNA for CCNP, Im currently at CCNA, my next step is CCNP, its natural for me only having 4 years in industry to folow the ladder structure. My colleague however has ten + years XP and has had his CCNA expire years ago, but he's a more than capable CCNP and beyond engineer.. So this makes sense for him to go straight into CCNP, I think if any new network engineer skips CCNA and goes straight into CCNP they will stunt rather than grow their skillsets Im looking forward to getting stuck into 350-401 ENCOR as soon as the material is released here in the UK

When you said the CCNP is greater than a 4-year degree, you are probably right about that! I studied for seven months everyday for my CCNA and finally took the exam last night. I think the CCNA is equivalent to a 4-year degree. If not, it is equivalent to a 2-year associates degree. The amount of material in that is amazing! I can't wait to see what the CCNP is like. Thanks, Chuck! Had the SWITCH exam down, couldn't get ROUTE out of the way before 2/23. Reviewing the CCNA before studying for ENCOR. One of the problems I've had with studying is that there's frequently subject matter gaps between what's published (Cough, Cisco Press) as the "official certification guide", and what's on the test, and for some exams (Collaboration), what's on the test is a bunch of material that's out of date (old revs of software) or version specific, and just rote memorization of things that, outside of having one in production, you have no access to the menu tree. Some of those just seemed to be schemes to have people attend Cisco classes at employer expense, which few of us can afford privately. Attempted the collab NA exam, once, and while the study material was mostly worth while, got disgusted at the exam's irrelevance to the skills necessary to do that role. I'm hoping that, like the goals of the new CCNA, that bringing the exams back to relevancy is in the works.

Oh I found my best approach on Cisco’s “CCNP Routing & Switching Migration Tool” page... pass ROUTE 300-101 and SWITCH 300-115 before 2/24, then I can take ENAUTO 300-435 after 2/23 for the CCNP Enterprise plus the DevNet cert. That would take some of the heat off since I won’t need to take TSHOOT before 2/24.

I think the main problem with all of this is that companies are slashing headcount left and right in the ISP industry right now and with cell companies too. I don't see companies hiring multiple CCNP's to cover all those specific individual disciplines and if they do they will probably pay those multiple people less pay per person to cover all those specialties and stay within corporate budget.

I've been saying it for the last three years. If you don't know how to use automation tools like Ansiblel, YANG, Netmiko, etc and if you can't write decent Python then you're going to get left behind. I would say there's about 10 years left for you if you're not on board. The new exams are going to be a huge barrier to entry and a road block to a lot of people in the industry. People really need to stop ignoring automation and they need to embrace it.

Its great to see your videos. I believe there are many to take from your videos and keep it up. My personal comment is better if you can make the videos smaller in size.

Thanks for the great content. I want to ask - which CCNP track would you recommend for cloud architects?
@kimdavis56313 жыл бұрын
Hey Akash, as we all know that cloud is nothing but a virtualized network and data center. Go for CCNP Data Center track.
@kimdavis56313 жыл бұрын
When it's time to renew after 3 years, go for the Enterprise Networks track or vice versa.

I am going to wait since I don't have any certs except the Meraki CMNO as I worked into my net engineering/dev job over years and took many training camps from multiple vendors and college classes. I like the enterprise track and will likely do advanced routing, automation, and SDWAN since that is what I do all the time on multiple vendors already. I would like to pickup design and security and maybe VoIP.

Right now I am preparing for my last CCNP cert (route) which I have to take before the end of October. For the new certification, first of all I would be taking the ISE and then CCNP Service Provider.

Incredible video, big fan! I am starting studying for my first CCNA RS for August and then study for my CCNA Security. I would love to get CCNP before Febraury 2020 but I think it's going to be really hard to do that.
