⚠️PLEASE READ⚠️ Your crested gecko doesn’t HAVE to eat insects. If your worried or have this problem, make sure to put the insects in your geckos cage so they eat it on their own. I hope this helped!

This can be dangerous with certain insects. For example, crickets move arround A LOT, so they will be easily found by your pet. But if they dont want to eat it the crickets become a problem, since they are omnivorous they may bite your gecko, wich may develop in an infection and rot. Other insects like mealworms may just hide away and pupate. There are exeptions, but generaly, dont do this

Additionally if you hand feed them ever you can dip the roach in the sauce a little to season it, my gecko had a poor feeding response but eventually i trained her to have a strong response

THANK YOU! My crestie is 14 years old and from what I can tell, she hasn’t ever eaten insects (before I got her a couple months ago). I’ve been sitting with her for up to 45 mins just trying to get her to eat an insect but she always just moves her head away. What’s strange is that she always licks her lips and moves her head in a way that she can see the insect but she never actually goes for the bite. (She’s only ever eaten for me 1 time). She won’t hesitate to eat her fruit mush or small peices of banana as a treat once a week or two. I’ll try this next time, thanks so much lol

Crested geckos and geckos in general are are very shy when being hand fed or fed outside the cage. My buddy would only eat inside his cage for a year before he was comfortable eating around me.

You can also crush the spine or mid section but allow the insect to still move around and squirm to attract a more natural feeding response

I wish. At least feeding him isn’t a problem. My gecko ate the crickets I got from Petco but would barely even take them out of my fingers. He refuses to eat these other crickets I just got from a different store. I don’t know if the species change turned him off or what.

Well that’s just great, my crested gecko could potentially have the exact opposite problem that my bearded dragon that I do have currently has; he refuses to willingly eat his vegetables, so i practically have to shove them down his throat, but he loooves his bugs. I will definitely have to introduce a varied diet early into my creative’s diet when I get one.

I can't believe all the info I learned was wrong! I bought the expensive guecko food with crushed insects a while back, but I was wondering why my gecko is still small. So they do need incects. I bought it crickets but she didn't care for them. I just went to check on her and caught her eating the moss patch. 😢 I've been failing her 😢 I did buy her dried chickets and will try squishing them or rubbing her regular food on it to tempt her. I found Cresties like to take their sweet time!Whether it’s a bug or Pangea. Since mine was a baby (he’s still a baby 4 months old)I haven’t got him to eat on his own I have to hand feed him every time😅!
