Hey Peter, thanks for sharing your story. I know switching jobs/contracts/roles is a messy process and knowing I am not the only one going through these rollercoaster rides helps. Goodluck with your new role. :)

Glad to hear an update! Sounds like you'll be doing interviews again near the end of this contract. Setting yourself up for getting really good at them. 🙂

How do the hourly rates compare with a regular full-time job. I would think you would expect to earn a bit more given contracts don't come with any benefits and you got to account for down times between contracts

I wish there were more part time software development opportunities! Curious how you’re liking your new job and what differences you’re seeing compared to full time. A short contract would mean that you’d have to start all over again after it ends? That sounds pretty draining. Is the main benefit for you that you can take a break in between? Were the interviews less focused on algorithms for a contract position? Thanks for sharing your journey!

In general, I'm much preferring contracting. I've had two contracts so far, and day-to-day the work itself hasn't been too different, but I've had much more flexibility in how much I work and when. I do feel a benefit could be taking a break when wanted/having more seasonality baked into my work. I've never had to prepare for the algorithmic style interviews, all mine have been more practical. Hope this helps if you're considering the same!

@@PeterElbaumI wouldn't want to interview every 6 months if it requires you to be on your game being able to answer tough interview questions all the time. But I've read that contractor interviews in general are not too hard cuz they can get rid of you if it doesn't work out. If that's the case it would help make it less stressful at least. Has that been the case for you? Thanks
