My neighbor emigrated to Canada 1.5 years ago. Recently he came to his mother. He told me the same story, that every group of community lives in your comfort zone. He is Russian, he found Kazakh family and going to move to that place, there are a climate a little bit warmer. I think he wants to find own comfort zone. I didn't asked, but I understood, that his family emigrated on church line.

Hey, Mark. That is totally true. I have been lived in Guelph for three years, after lived in Mississauga. We found a wonderful Church, after went to other three before this one. The vast majority of people here is elderly, but on the other hand are several students because of the University of Guelph. Also, I learnt a lot about this community that was the first white farm in the 19th Century. When we went to our Church one of the thing that I really loved was that they follow God in the Jesuit Ignatian tradition. I remember the first day we went everyone was looked at us (you know we were almost "new people", but now after three years, and became member of the parish I have a few friends. The relationship is not like: come over my house! but I can chat with them in English. Also, I help the Father with some things in the Parish. I am catholic and for me is the place that I going to have some peace and to feed my soul, moreover I want to grow in faith. I am not going to lay (some people are cold), but is the minority. The only thing that I know is everybody is welcome. ;)

Interesting but one crucial question is never asked: what do we mean by friends? I have a feeling that what constitutes friendship in most English speaking countries does not necessarily constitute friendship in other cultures
@crescendo24414 жыл бұрын
Very true, glad you brought this up. In most non-anglo cultures, people only have a handful of friends, or even less like 1 - 3, but these are people they have a very strong bond with. This number would be considered pathetic in Anglo countries where people seem to expect you to have around 10 friends or more, with an attitude of "the more the merrier". However if you examine these Anglo 'friends' they are not real friends, merely what another culture would call an acquaintance. In a lot of cases Anglo people seem to call everyone they know (other than family) a friend, even if they dislike them! No way in other cultures!

It is very interesting Mark, we have same situation in India. I live in Delhi. Here i can see South Indian peoples lives in a one place, North East Indian peoples live in another area. they don't like to mix each other. The situation is better now, after social media and facebook, the peoples are meeting and helping each other. earlier the situation was really critical . peoples were living in their comfort zone. Your idea is excellent and it will be good for any society.

I had some lovely friends in Leicester who invited me over lunch and dinner. I also went to a Church which was a scary but unique experience. I might try this but I would be much more comfortable in volunteering at a local mosque instead. For exploring some other uncomfortable things, I might try to live in a neighborhood that's somewhat different like instead of living in the northeast portion of the chart you showed, I could live in the northwestern region. May be I can have some good Chinese friends. Also, I don't think it should be a problem in making some English friends. C'mon, it's such a pity for those who are living there for such a long time and they haven't got any English friends. I have a very good Canadian English friend and I haven't even visited Canada yet.

If I ever come to Canada then the first thing that I will do is... meet you and then volunteer at some NGOs. You are right! Churches are the best place to befriend. But I used to visit there because I wanted some peace which I could never find in temples.

Mark, you have a pretty big heart. Keep in your mind, wealth is very relative. The things we can buy are not important because the most valuable ones are for free. By the way, I noticed you say "a church", my teacher taught me, no "a/the" is used with the word "church".

Hi! 😃😃Great question. It depends if we are talking about the place or the event. That's a nice church. (building) I love going to church. (event)
