Exactly what I was looking for!!!! In my mind I figured this could be done with simple acrylic. This video showed me that I wasn’t just imagining things!! I love it

Thank you! I'm going to do the opposite and use black to highlight over a gold fixture. :)

Is the first coat of black enamel a flat or a satin finish? This is very helpful in my effort to restore the metal ornamentation on antique mantle clocks. Thank you!
@Buckminsterupholstery4 жыл бұрын
It appears I used satin finish. There could be an argument that flat finish would aid somewhat with adhesion of the following coats.

I am not sure that you will answer this but I am going to take a white iron bed and antique it to dark gold....Distressed gold similar to the color of your hardware. Would you suggest I paint it with dark paint after I prime it dark or just start using the gold on it?
@Buckminsterupholstery6 жыл бұрын
I don't know what products you will be using but you will probably want a base color under the gold. I've found that Rustoleum primer makes a good base color for wood graining such as mahogany. I forget the primer's color. The rusty red/brown one might be a good choice for your project. Krylon primer dries quicker. Good luck.

thanks for sharing..its really cool. I have two question ..one ..For the second layer of antiqued glaze (Trans-tint) that you have used, can I get any other alternative. This product is unavailable in India. Can i pick an alternative product from the hardware or automotive store? What should i ask for? second..Can i use an acrylic spray instead of an enamel spray. would the effect be the same?
@Buckminsterupholstery5 жыл бұрын
You can try an alcohol based aniline dye instead of Trans-tint. Comes in powder form. (wood finishing product) Don't need to mix the entire bottle as directed. Play with small amounts until you get the desired effect. Yes, an acrylic spray will work.

Buckminster Upholstery Their websites not too user friendly but the recommend stores and it looks like Michaels and Joann Fabrics carries it as well as others. Thanks again!

what is this used at the end? is it trisodium phosphate?
@Buckminsterupholstery6 жыл бұрын
Not sure what you're asking? The product that gives the second layer of antiqued glaze is Trans-tint, a multi-purpose colorant used in clear finishes and pore fillers.
@JesseJohnson883 жыл бұрын
Did you say it was trans tint with denatured alcohol? What color trans tint?

Brown mahogany in alcohol. Thanks for tuning in.

Where did you find the antique iron pulls?
@Buckminsterupholstery3 жыл бұрын
I salvaged the pulls from an 1850's dresser restoration. Wooden knobs had been replaced with these iron pulls. They were perfect for my pantry cupboard.

, too, am restoring a 100- year-old house. The seven doors upstairs 3 bedrooms and closets with copper-plated hardware ( antique finished) with several coats of paint-over. That's seven sets of hinges, 14 doorknobs, 14 backplates, yada yada yada. I am experienced with paint stripper, so cleaning them is no problem. I would like a copper finish close to the original. Have searched for copper hardware with no satisfactory results. Any ideas??
