I saw Rub n Buff and had to stop in. Those of us in the SteamPunk and CosPlay world have been using this stuff for years to get realistic results for metallics while only using plastic or foam. I usually apply it over a finely sanded black primer, works like magic. Just make sure to polish all of the excess compound off to bring out the real luster of this amazing product.

@kelleyarcher36353 жыл бұрын
@@MmeO I think antique gold would be beautiful. It would add some depth and make it look a little more aged. I needed to add some silver to make it fit a little better with my decor. Luckily there was a band in the frame so it made sense with the frame.

Fantastic video - I’ve just bought some antique gold rub and buff. And I am excited about what I can make with it. But for the old original brass hard wear, I think that would have com up a lot nicer if you had cleaned off some of the dark patina with something like Bar Keepers friend - it would have looked amazing restored back to the original brass.

So the European Gold is sort of champagne gold and the Grecian a darker, antique-ish one. I really am convinced. I have simple, inexpensive grey-painted steel bookshelves from IKEA the frame of which I'm going to turn into something awesome with this product. I suppose when applying over metal, it would be a good idea to let it dry completely before buffing.

How can you seal / clear coat this? Wont the color smudge over to what ever touches it?
@tahomyjo4 жыл бұрын
the rub n buff does not smear after it’s been cured for approx a full hour. I’ve used this product for years and mostly with my jewelry pieces . If any of your silver plated charms look cheap fear not and just go over it with silver rub n buff .... I ALWAYS seal my work because it can and will wear off if it’s used for anything you will be touching and rubbing, stuff is pretty darn strong but adding clear coat sealer is highly recommend. Even after you use rub n buff and where there are detailed areas you can wax over it with a colored wax to antique it or you can simply use a paint color that’s been diluted and apply it then with a slightly damp rag wipe over the paint so it shows most of the underlying color from the main surface, so you can seal it before this step or after , The wax works like a sealer on its own and I would probably seal it before I applied any paint for antiquing though . Then you just follow up with your normal wax sealer or other sealer over your chalk paint ..I couldn’t live without this with my crafting .... you can also dry brush with it to let the base color peek thru and use it to highlight any raised surface. There is a gal on KZbin that did a test with several different metallic finishes and rub n buff was the clear winner

I will change the lamp shades to something tapered and modern and hope for the best. I think I can use this product on my ladder, w/o taking down lamp, even on the chain. I want Circa Lighting, Aerin Lauder's Montreuil Chandelier, but this tube of faux is in my budget! 0 UPDATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This product did not work on brass lamp at all. I tried it on wood, and it is beautiful, but because the brass is not porous it did not adhere, it just looked horrible. I did the exact same thing as in the video. I tested on an old brass lamp from work that matches the finish of my chandelier - just like the one in the video.
