I always glue the front and back of my puzzles. It helps seal them as well as add strength and can help with any warping that occurs.

Update 2: I have added newspaper paper (unprinted) to the back of the puzzle instead of tape for more sturdiness -like the cardboard you mentioned. Also, instead of gluing the puzzle (this applies from the back only) and allowing it to dry, I added that wax paper you used on top of your cardboard (or my unprinted newspaper paper)...to allow to place heavy books on top to avoid curling ...and protecting the books from the glue. Allow the glue to dry for several days, so be patient!! Update: I agree! Card is tons better in results! I've done this before, and feel like I’m ruining the puzzle when I glued it for a loved one! I bought myself another copy because I loved the image. Ravensburger Bunch of Birds. I've glued only 2 puzzles in my life, both this year, but none for myself!! In order to flue both puzzles, I have watched several YT videos, none as thorough as yours, congrats again!

I am so delighted you are happy with the matte finish. I loved watching this. Something so satisfying about seeing the white glue around each piece when you finished applying. Looking forward to part 2.

I am! I was honestly worried about the puzzle becoming shiny, it was one of the things putting me off gluing. I didn’t even know a matte finish MP existed! 😍 I’m really glad you enjoyed it - I agree - As soon as I put it on the dark parts of the Pac-Man puzzle and could see the outline, I love how cool it looked! 😎

I like the use of an old credit/reward card as an applicator; that’s a clever idea. The one time I glued a puzzle I used a brush and got all kinds of brush strokes on the surface. (Fortunately, you can’t really tell unless you look closely.) And I found-as you did-that gluing both the front and back made the puzzle *much* sturdier. Looking forward to part 2! (And it was nice seeing Grace.)

I saw that idea on the internet somewhere, although I can’t remember where - I also prefer the card method as the brush strokes just don’t look as good. You can barely see it on the Mario puzzle though 😍 With the mod podge - gluing the puzzle to the board has the same effect as gluing on the back so that’s a plus for that. With the Ravensburger glue, it wasn’t as strong, but also, I wasn’t gluing it onto anything so it made sense to glue both sides. I think that glue is practical for small puzzles 😃

I’m so glad, Clark! It’s going really well and I’m super glad I set it up - wish I hadn’t waited so long to do it in fact! ❤️

and you are correct about more glue seeping through if the fit is looser. If it is loose enough, some pieces can even get out of their place when scraping which will get glue under the piece as well as between them. (I hope that makes sense..)
@Vickymakesandbuilds25 күн бұрын
Yes, I thought that might be the case. It was fine on my Educa because I had it taped. I think I might do that as a matter of course now since it just helps to keep the pieces still while you are manoeuvring glue across it too ❤️

I’ve tried a sponge brush and the “card” technique (I bought a puzzle glue kit and it came with a card like applicator that I love), and prefer using a card/applicator over a brush to prevent streaks. For larger puzzles I use a sponge brush first because I think it gets in the cervices better, and then go over it with the card/applicator to remove the streaks. I hadn’t thought to essentially paper mache it and that’s a great idea! My 2000 piece puzzle that I just used glue on is all sorts of warped after trying to hang onto my wall for a year. I’ll give it a shot on the next puzzle I glue! Also I had no idea the glue comes in larger sizes! I’ve been buying tons of the mini containers and going through them like crazy! (I glue a lot of my puzzles)

I wonder if a small ice scraper would work (like you use for cleaning the ice off a car window)
@Vickymakesandbuilds25 күн бұрын
Thanks for your comment - great idea using a sponge brush first to get into the cracks and then following up with the card scraper 😊 Yes it does! Although I had to hunt for it a bit, as what normally comes up in the searches is the smaller tubs. Then I found a gallon tub so I went for it. I knew I’d need plenty for the size of puzzles I’m going to glue 😍

That would probably work quite well too, Clark 😍

Well done. Great that you experimented with both glues and different applicators. I learned a lot even though I haven't glued any of mine. I just finished my Visionaria 13200 piece and put together on the floor, took some pics and just broke it up again in sections, bagged them up and put back in the box ready to sell as I loved doing it but doubt I would do it again.

Thank you! I’m glad you learned a lot. I just find sometimes, that when I’m looking to learn how to do something and have millions of questions, I can never find a single source answer - that’s why I make these, in the hope someone will find it really useful and not have to do all the hunting around and Googling that I did! 🤣 amazing job on Visionaria! ❤️

@@Vickymakesandbuilds Thank you for doing all the grunt work for us. I'm sure I'm not the only one who appreciates not having to trawl through 52,000 results to find the best option. Visionaria looks amazing when done. Not sure whether to tackle the Colin Thompson 18000 piece next or a few smaller ones like 5000. We'll see. Looking forward to your next project whatever you decide that is.

I've used a couple types of glue and different application techniques, but my preferred is the regular white glue (not too picky about the brand) and the old credit card.. biggest pain is often getting the wax paper under it to prevent contact with the surface under the puzzle. (crumbly puzzles are evil)
@Vickymakesandbuilds25 күн бұрын
Yes, having experimented, I think that’s my favourite too 😊 crumbly puzzles do make life a bit difficult don’t they 😆

Do you still do puzzles just for yourself (for fun) and if so, how do you take the pressure off when you've had to step away for awhile and want to go back but feel overwhelmed? Maybe this is just a me thing 😅
@Vickymakesandbuilds25 күн бұрын
Yes I do. It is nice doing a puzzle without filming it or making a video out of it, but honestly I still have fun with the puzzles I do for the videos 😍 There is no pressure or overwhelm doing puzzles for me, but I do relax with other hobbies if I want a wee break from a puzzle - I love to dance and do Lego ❤️
