Good idea and well done! Two suggestions: 1) You can use gauze together with superglue and soda on the outside. This will create an even more resistant surface. 2) As a finishing suggestion, instead of using nail paint, you could have used a thermal insulation tube, previously placed upwards before gluing. To finish, just move the tube and apply heat: the black color of the tube is matte and would have an almost imperceptible finish.

​@@VictoriaWalker8 It broke at the hinge point where the ear cups rotate and fold. I bought another pair and let them sit on a headphone stand so there's less stress on this point. It seems to help.

I'm about to attempt this method on my youngest son's pair, but I intend to use epoxy and a layer of plastic film on the earcup side. This should prevent the adjustment arm from getting glued to the earcup and allow it to still swivel.

Best is to open the headphones and take out the screw and glue it from inside then screw it back

You can't do that without splicing the wire inside. The adjustment arm is longer than the slack inside to get to the screw at the other end of that arm.

My new pair from Amazon has a right hinge that’s already separating! Luckily I’m within return policy…I also own Bang & Olufsen H95s and AirPods max…. (I take care of my gear) I can see a failure on these so I am returning them before they fully fail. I handled these with care and they feel so fragile…Sony blames end users on engineering failures so I don’t want to play any games with fighting with them. lots of talk on here and Reddit.. Sony needs to get with it.

Simple solution (thanks to me later)... get any 2 min glue (that get glued anything in 2 minutes)... put it on inside edges and on the steel ring that is visible .... attach them closely and firmly and keep rotating for 2-3 minutes untill it dries and stick the fixed parts... (keep rotating until it dries otherwise it wont let u rotate the hinge)

its now more than two week, my headphones are working perfectly... just 5 cent worth (any 2 min adhesive) glue will do the trick... put it on steel ring and inside wall of other part and connect them firmly and keep rotating slowly for 3-5 minutes... simple science thats it...

GUYS THIS WORKS!! I tried it as "why not" ; worst case scenario, I will do what's described in the video after if it fails. But my headphones are fixed and can swivel/rotate for free! Thanks for the video @TechscrewDIY and thank you for the method @anandsarena4519! :^)

XM4 is the easiest to fix by replacing the part. XM3 is the worst to fix because you need to desolder bare copper wires just to feed through the cable.

Mine broke today after 6months. I was putting them on and heard a small cracking sound on the left. It's so poorly made that after fiddling with it, it completely broke off. Be very careful of these plastic hinges, even the more expensive senheiser ones (it will hurt more) They are prone to breaking. Even if Sony replaces it for you for free, it'll break again over time with all the adjustments, twisting and turning. Trust me.

Be careful, to destroy the rotation belt of the WH-1000XM5, you must do so rotate 360 degrees. Otherwise it will not break.

@@pdu851 Absolutely do not read Reddit reviews where they say that the WH-1000XM5's rotation belt breaks easily. To break the WH-1000XM5 rotation belt, you need to rotate it 360 degrees. Otherwise, it won't break as easily as they say in Reddit.

There is a rough pattern on the metal joint that impregnates the plastic. If it gets pulled out the plastic will not have enough friction to keep it from just falling out even easier in the future. It either needs to have deeper grooves in the rough pattern to engage with the plastic more, or really just use screws to attach the plastic to the swivel joint.
