How to Re-grout a brick fireplace in 7 east steps.
You can change the look of your brick by re-grouting the out of date orange brick with a white mortar or white brick.

Tip - "scuff" the brass fireplace cover first with fine grit sandpaper before painting it for better adhesion ...... 200 - 400 grit , or a sanding sponge (those work great and you can use 100 grit with those , just don't sand real hard) but always scuff up a slick surface before painting , and maybe even use a primer undercoater too , or you might have problems later with peeling , chipping paint ..... the microscopic "scratches" give the paint something to "grab and hold on to" , no need to "sand it hard" , just scuff it up a bit , create a slightly rougher surface , "dull the shine" a bit ..... Very important or you'll possibly be very sorry later .... paint doesn't stick well to slick shiny surfaces , I don't care what the can says

I watched this several times but just couldn't get the grout consistency right. Either it wouldn't come out of the grout bag or it pored out. After two hours, I gave up. You make it look so easy!!

I am wondering where you purchased your white mortar mix? I am having a hard time finding white mortar. I am actually building a brick wall so I am not sure that grout would be strong enough to handle the weight.

I have Chicago brick floors that were previously sealed. They are almost the same color as my kitchen cabinets as is. I want to lighten the brick floors and thought that white washing be a good idea; however was told that because the bricks were sealed, I could not do a traditional white wash. Any ideas of how I could get a white wash look on a sealed brick floor and it be durable?

believe it or not , they make a "mortar joint TOOL" and it costs $5 !!!!! You bought the mortar bag , the joint tool was probably right next to it in the store !!!!!! ...... DO NOT use "The back of the brush" , and I think you found that out pretty quickly , the back of the brush is too "pointy" and gouges out the mortar , you also want to wet the brick and mortar first before application , spray bottle mist basically

Well that is amazing quick easy steps on have to ugly up your brick. The reason I am looking at this site is I was thinking of buying a house but somebody has put that ugly crap on the brick. I’m trying to find somebody who can tell me what it would cost to remove that ugly stuff And get back to the beautiful brick. Regular brick can be brought back to his original beauty with soft wash. This just looks like somebody went out with all their heart and soul to ugly the brick up somehow
