Great find under the paneling. It made life easier than drywalling the room.

Thank you for sharing your awesome process for the fireplace. Great idea to shorten the bristles of the brush to apply. Looks wonderful. Have an awesome weekend. Stay safe, happy and healthy, from Henrico County Virginia

Sorry. I was under a time crunch for this one and didn't film the rest of the room.

Great results there and love the wainscot final work! For me, I couldn't do that to the fireplace as I just refinished the floors and it was suggested to muriac acid wash the brick work, then do a thinner wash. I'll leave that to the next owner...but that sure was a lot of work to watch you do and nice result! Paneling...its like the surprise in the cereal box..oh you will get surprise!

hahahaha that is a great way to describe paneling. Yeah I saw some white washes on brick when I was looking around for the best way to do this and I was not a huge fan of that look at all.

An interesting technique I hadn't seen before. It's definitely an improvement, and overall the room looks incredible compared to what you started with. My current home also had floor-to-ceiling faux wood paneling in one room when I bought it, so that part of your video gave me PTSD flashbacks. 😬 😁

Really interesting to see another change of setting for your work. It's definitely not my thing, as you say it's personal taste, but you recreate a very old faded and worn English whitewashed and painted wall perfectly. Your thorough preparation and attention to detail as always inform your work and your commentary is perfectly judged for me. Thanks for sharing this renovation, even these glimpses are very interesting and satisfying.

Thanks man, appreciate someone who puts effort into a constructive comment even if it's not their personal taste.

An interesting video this one, not sure I’ve seen that type of finishing to brickwork before, I am not sure if I’d do it in my house but I have to say I didn’t like the brickwork much in its original finish either, I’m with you on the fact it looked too dark and patchy and there was so much of it something had to be done and unfortunately I have not got a better idea to offer without doing a lot more thinking about it, I have to say I think it did look an improvement when it was finished 👍👍👍👌👌👌🇦🇺

Nice finish on the bricks. I agree on the concept of not painting brick, but there are exceptions, and this is one of them for sure. Looks great. Looking forward to seeing more of the work done in that space. Thanks for sharing ✌️

I really like what you have done with that room - it looks great! The before picture reminds me of my first job in the early 70's. Installed a lot of paneling and faux beams in new home construction which seemed to be popular at the time (yeah - shag carpet, leisure suits and flair bottom pants were as well). Steve

luckily the faux beams have come back around in popularity and those are staying in place haha.

Yes, the painted brick, I understand. We have a formerly beautiful cottage style old brick store with wide display windows. The brick was a natural tan earth tone then the new owner painted it. I don’t believe there is any nondestructive way to restore it. It’s has now been repainted several times to regain the original appeal but now the latest travesty is stucco.

I actually have a video on here that is probably a year old now where I restore a brick wall. It was plastered over and once the bulk of the plaster was removed there was still a lot of material left on the brick. A masonry grinding disc, coupled with a wire wheel for my grinder. As well as countless hours of grinding and more dust then I've ever seen in my life and the wall looked brand new.

At the end you said you will probably seal it. What do you seal it with?
@HoneyBadgerWoodWorks
@HoneyBadgerWoodWorks 9 ай бұрын
I ended up not sealing this. Most water based finishes yellow gradually over time and I didn't want to deal with that. And oil based finishes will turn it yellow right away.
