I wish I had now years ago that it was this easy to grow nut trees, and that if you buy one from a nursery, you can have nuts your second year or third year in your own yard. Thanks for telling us about your almond tree! Can't wait for the rest of the series!

Can they crack an almond? Just wondering. Good luck. If we could get 3,000 people to donate $5, that would be perfect.... Thanks! If you would like to donate and help build the new Freetown Farm greenhouse for a non-profit I am working with... Here is the donation link and a landing page: www.communityecologyinstitute.org/greenhouse-project.html Thanks so much!

@@THERUSTEDGARDEN Yes, their beaks and "jaw" strength are incredibly strong. They can crack almost ever nut, including walnuts and Brazil nuts. They also enjoy fresh and dried fruits, so we're on the verge of planting a food forest.

Not ants from them. But the yard has ants that do their thing. No squirrel issues. It is a super hard nut to crack. But so far so good. Have one smaller than yours. Willows outside our fence had some kind of fungus on leaves. Now it's on my tree. What should I use and when? Plus, fruit gone within weeks of growth. :( Suspect birds or squirrels. Yes?

Any cupper based fungicide will do , normally it's applied before the buds break out . An old method is to use a mix of 8 gr Sulfur with 7gr Calcium Hydroxide in 10 liters of water " Without chlorine " and spraying it before the buds break and after the fruit has set , the second one is considered more friendly to the environment but also harder to apply.

What a great idea! I didn’t know I could grow almonds in my zone 6 area. Thanks for the info. I deal with peach twig borers and peach tree borers here in SW Idaho. I’m assuming, since the almond is in the same family, they would be bothered by the same pests? I know the east and west of our country often deal with different pests. We don’t have plum curculio here to deal with.

How do the Almonds taste? I have heard the Halls Almonds are bitter. By any chance is the taste of the Halls Almonds similar to the raw almonds you can buy at the store? I bought a couple of the Halls Hardy Almond trees this year. They arrived today (Around 3-4 ft tall). I hope to plant them next weekend March 25, 2023

do you have many squirrels in your yard? I have a few oak trees in my yard and see very few acorns. I'm assuming it is because of all the squirrels I have. Just wondering if I would get any almonds or if I would be simply planting a squirrel feeder. Thanks for your thoughts on this.

If you live in Frederick Maryland, what is a lot of rock and clay soil? Will it take because I have a very open area where plenty of sun happens then during the fall and winter it’s cold as can be and times in the fall where it rains pretty good planting a tree in the well open area still work for me! I wanna almond tree so bad! Hopefully HOA allows me to plan it I was thinking of a walnut tree 🌳
