The video shows fertilizing after 35 days. I started mine indoors and will be planting in a vertical planter outdoors soon (zone 7B). Now that they have more than 2 original leaves, I’m wondering about fertilization. It’s only been 2 weeks since seeds were started. Thoughts? Thanks! You are my go to favorite!

The simplicity of your channel is what makes it so enjoyable to watch, also have you ever tried growing banana plants?

I have not tried growing bananas since the growing conditions do not match what we have hear in our area. So glad you are enjoying the videos and thank you so much for your comment!

Hello on the video posted October 13, 2023 on the butter leaf lettuce after you harvest does the lettuce regrow or is it done and once I harvest the entire crop just recycle the soil?
@TowardGarden
@TowardGarden Жыл бұрын
Hello! For this type of lettuce that are quick to grow, I usually start from seeds again for a new harvest. But in general, lettuce roots left in soil will regrow new leaves, but maybe not as mature heads as the first time. Hope this helps and thank you for visiting.

do you use a greenhouse to put your seedlings in
@TowardGarden
@TowardGarden Жыл бұрын
I don't use greenhouse. Lettuce prefers cool weather and grow perfectly in our mild winters. But if you have very cold climate, greenhouse will be great too. Thank you for visiting.

Another wonderful video. I always get scared to plant lettuce, spinach and all the things that tend to bolt. It’s March 5th and I live in zone 6b. It always seems like I miss the opportunity to start these from seed. It’s already hot some days and I’m afraid I will waste my time. When should these things be sown directly as seeds? It seems like January or February. I just purchased starts and all I can say is fingers crossed 🤞🏾.

I'd say now is a prefect time to grow lettuce in zone 6b, I don't think it will be that hot soon. Specially this variety grows fast and you can enjoy young leaves too. Happy growing and wishing you a wonderful harvest!😊🌱

What do you use for pest control?
@TowardGarden
@TowardGarden Жыл бұрын
Depending on the pests, I use neem oil or Spinosad mix sprays. Both are organic. If you don't want to use any sprays, garden netting is a great option to cover and protect lettuce. Thank you for visiting.

How do you decide to direct sow vs sow in plug trays?
@TowardGarden

If they are fast growing, you can direct sow them. Also instructions on the seed packets will tell you of you can direct sow them. Thank you for visiting!

I generally reuse my potting soils but the soil needs to be amended for new plants. Check my video here on how I reuse the potting soil kzbin.info/www/bejne/pJ3QkqWip9yZhqssi=XNPoWKn3Ohi7x6NT . Thank you for visiting!

Kinda sad to seed the end of the head's life with no baby seeds to continue to the next generation. I know that lettuce starts getting bitter when it creates the flower stalks to produce seeds and less leaves. BTW, what drill bit size if that? Can't be 1/4" inch.
@TowardGarden
@TowardGarden 9 ай бұрын
1/4" size works too but obviously you will need more holes, maybe double. Thanks for sharing!

Do you ever have issues with white flies or aphids with your leafy greens? Because I sure am. 😭
@TowardGarden
@TowardGarden Жыл бұрын
Not so much with leafy crops. I have many types of flowers and it seems the bugs are more attractive to those (zinnia, cosmos, ...). You can either cover your lettuce with garden nettings or spray with neem oil. I avoid spraying on my greens tho. Hope you will have a better results and thank you for visiting!

I don't have too many flowers. I hope it's not too late to plant more for zone 9!

With mild winters in zone 9, you can sow some flowers like zinnia or marigold year around. Happy growing! @@_Nanalae

Top your soil with worm castings or insect frass. Creates chitin which deters aphids and the ants that farm them.
