Spinach is one thing I hoped I did right this year and it’s wonderful to have my hopes confirmed. Containers worked better for me probably because poor bed prep… I wonder what are the temps that end the spinach season? And is it heat, or sun? I am willing to bring them indoors. Somewhere. Always trying to keep fresh greens coming during Texas summers.🤞🏼
@TowardGarden
@TowardGarden 2 жыл бұрын
Depending on the variety, the temperature they start bolting can be different. Some spinach varieties are slow to bolt and may withstand temperature +90F. Spinach requires adequate light to grow so I don't recommend growing them inside. I hope this helps and thank you so much for your comment!

Another great video.. Thanks for posting it. I like & watched all your videos so far. Quite happy to see the plants growing so healthy. I'm a beginner gardener and some of your videos has more valuable information which helped me. Thanks for the detailed information presented in such short videos. I live in Zone 7b. I had mixed results with seedlings. some would do very well & some don't grow that well indoors before transplanting them into garden. Would like to know if you use any grow lights & seedling feed as they look beautiful and healthy before you transplant them out. Thank you so much again for posting great content.

Seedlings are always challenging and for some, I need to try different ways to find what works for me too, so don't get discouraged. I live in zone 9b and the conditions to grow seedlings can be very different with yours. Temperature and light as you mentioned is very important. If you grow seedlings inside, the temperature can be fine, but you might need to provide more lights. I usually don't use grow lights but you can defiantly use them to help with the light issue. Also, if you see the seedlings are struggling to grow, feed them with diluted fish fertilizer (1/4 of suggested rate on the bottle). Try not to feed them at a high rate - it might damage seedlings and encourage fungal disease such as damping off. I hope this helps and thank yo so much for your inspiring comment! Happy gardening😊

For cold weather veggies like spinach I usually don't have worm problem. If I do, neem oil mix or B.t. are what I use most. Also we have many birds and lizards hanging around our backyard which is a big help. Thank you very much for your comment.

To grow in containers and grow bags, I use my own mix which is shown @2:29 in video. It is mix of Composted chicken manure+perlite+coir. You may use potting soil but I recommend adding chicken manure (min 2:22) to make it rich. Thank you so much for your comment!

Hi there. I use diluted fish fertilizer for my seedling only if I notice they are struggling to grow. Otherwise try not to use fertilizer. And as soon as they are ready, I immediately transplant them so they can get nutrients. Good question! Thank you very much for your comment!

Hi, so glad you loved my video. You just need to keep seed soil moist, but not soggy. If you are using seed starting mix, it should hold moisture pretty well and you maybe just need to water every other day or so. Usually if the top soil is dry it is time to water. Hope this helps and thank you very much for your comment!

@TowardGarden Жыл бұрын
Easiest would be to check the top soil and wait until it is almost dry between watering. You want to keep soil moist but not soggy. And for spinach, definitely do let soil dry completely. Hope this helps and thank you so much for your comment!
