Here in Philippines,my hometown, we just leave in the soil and it grow itself. Or plant directly into the ground or even in a pot.just pick the matured chayote, Its very easy to grow just water it regularly.. sometimes it will drop on the ground .

Here in North America, our planting season is short so we need a headstart. Around March we do our seedlings indoorsor in greenhouses and transplant them outdoors sometime in May that they may be harvested before Fall or when it gets too cold and freeze the veggies. Would love to do urban gardening in the tropics just like the Phils!
