I grind up my hens' egg shells in a food processor and add a couple of tbsp in each hole. Then I sprinkle the egg powder on the leaves many times a season against beetles. It works!.

I have 3 cucumber hills going-2 in large containers and one in a raised bed. This growing season in zone 6 has been great but i have to watch the container plants daily for watering. I love cucumbers in the summer!

CaliKim29 Garden & Home DIY unfortunately we just sold our house last Friday 😭😔 However, I was growing 3 kinds of mint, red Russian kale, curly kale, rosemary, basil, tomatoes, tons of swish chard (my kids favorite), grapes that I still didn't see lol, aloe vera, potatoes and lettuce mix. Most I took with me with attempts to grow in our temporary small place for the next 2 weeks the others I gave to my neighbor who gardens as well (we always swap with each other). However, the house we will move in is almost finished being reconstructed and will have .88 acre fenced off behind the house. Not sure what to grow now with all this space...but you 2 give me great ideas!🌱🙏🏽

CaliKim29 Garden & Home DIY I like to grow Russian parthenocarpic cucumbers in my greenhouse. Those varieties are highly productive, are more disease tolerant, and produce early, because they don't need pollination from male flowers. I built my wooden greenhouse myself mostly but my dad and brother also helped me. I Highly recommend any gardener to build one or buy one, if they have the space time and money for it. Of course it's much cheaper to build one yourself, especially if it's a wooden greenhouse that you then cover with plastic film/greenhouse film.

The hardest thing about growing cucumbers is the prickly issues when harvesting. I picked a couple dozen cucumbers Thursday, and my arms look like I have danced with a porcupine. The itching is worse than chigger bites. So, use long sleeves and gloves when picking and don't end up like me.

I am a super novice gardener. I planted spacemaster cucumbers for the first time about 6 weeks ago in Texas, about 20 minutes from Houston. Zone 9. So, it was hot when I planted them, but now it is getting down to 38 degrees at night. It is 52 in the daytime. I am covering the plants at night, but I am thinking I am not gonna have success with these. Any suggestions?

I asked a few days ago on your compost video and I'm not sure if you go it or not. I've started s compost bin and I have been saving up kitchen scraps... well I didn't have my bin made yet so the scraps have been sitting in a bucket with a lib on it. Now it smells really bad and the watermelon rind is moldy looking. Can I still use this or not?

Hello Martin, yes, you can go ahead and add them to your pile - all part of the compost process. Just don't add dairy products or meat. Soon you'll have black gold to feed your garden!

If I have to get them in in 4 weeks, and my ground isn’t warm enough what do I do? Warm the soil with black plastic., set up a greenhouse effect with plastic containers?

Start the seeds inside. They should be a nice size by 4 weeks, then you can plant them out. Use a 16oz solo cup or similar so the roots don't get too disturbed when planting outside. Don't forget to harden off.

Every morning when I check on my kukes the leaves are missing, there are no holes or any signs of worms or insects eating them but all the leaves are gone and today the entire vine was missing. What could be eating them? Do rats or mice eat kukes?
