For 2 weeks I've been saving my kitchen scraps. And this is what I ended up with-8 egg shells and some used coffee grinds. Being from the old school of waste not/want not, I cook exactly what I'll eat within 3 days. No left overs. So, my new soil will have to consist of grass clippings, sticks, leaves, and last years veggie stems from my totes, buckets, and pot containers. I'm not sure if I should be proud or sad. Ha

I was so impressed by the way 'Robbie's Continuous Composting Technique' improved yields from my courgette plants last year, I started adding kitchen waste to several totes and large pots a few weeks ago, ready for when the season starts to warm up. By the time it's safe to put courgette plants outside in late May/early June, there should already be a decent level of semi-composted material ready to get them going. I'm looking forward to a much better yield this year!

It made so much difference to my plant yields too. When I lived in the south of England, I never had a problem with growing vegetables. Tomatoes and courgettes - just put them in the ground and off they went. As soon as I moved to Scotland, they consistently failed. Of course, I put the whole problem down to being further north: colder, more rain, more clouds and a lot, lot more wildlife. But it was really beginning to irk me that every year I would get nothing but flowers from my courgettes. I'd given up with the tomatoes already. Tried Robbie's technique, when it was getting close to the end of our growing season, and it was a total game changer. Not just flowers - but actual courgettes at last, and a good size too.

Very very informative video Robbie ❣️ In the beginning I saw videos about compost bins and I made two large pots and compost in there. But I needed that soil immediately for my plants. I was turning and turning the compost bins but they were ready in six months! By that time I spend so much money on compost that I bought and soil too. When I collected the compost that I made in the bins I realized that it was so little. So it wasn't worth it for me to do it this way.... I didn't have the space to have the place to have big compost bins in my balconies or earthworms . So I gave up with the compost project and I had to buy it... But then I've found your awesome channel ✨ and I've seen how you make it happen!!! So I did the same thing like you're teaching us. I didn't have earthworms but it worked perfectly fine ❤️ It's been from last summer and all my totes and pots has been setting up this way and my plants love it!!! I didn't have any earthworms but everything is turning into beautiful soil and I'm saving so much money! Now that I have plants I can save their leaves....and that circle of life is so natural and productive 🙏 All thanks to you Robbie ❣️ And it's fun too! Putting your scraps, a bit of soil and plant! Thank you for showing how we can save money on Rich dirt I’ve had to put down over 50 bags of dirt for my yard and garden time to save money now !!!

As I get older I find I can't lift bags of soil any more. The little ones are not economical. Anything I can create from scraps is really helpful.

@@oldladyfromnm7590 doing it this way you won’t need any soil or get the small bag and just put in some soil where you’re planting the plant in the container like a cup or two in the spot you are planting

Oh well now you know how to make soil and the more you garden the more soil you’ll be making from your own garden 😊

I like how intentionally you arrange things - like you are designing the big window at a downtown Macy's. Back when there were downtowns and Macy's display windows.

I remember many of those display windows in downtown LA, just think if I made a window like this down there😂

Wow! Fantastic video - this answers a lot of questions. I was surprised how super fast everything broke down. No wonder the soil level in my totes (filled with kitchen scraps and paper) drops down so fast.

I'm setting up a compost bin today. Cleaning out my refrigerator. Will that work? I have leaves and things too. This was a great lesson.

Thank you for seeing the time breakdown. I have been doing your methods. Last year I bought what I needed, it cost. This is so much better. I need help on setting up my small in ground pond. Would appreciate your help.
