Also easy to propagate is basil! I like pesto, so I propagate a LOT of plants. Honestly, every time I cut a stem to harvest some leaves, I make my cutting so that I can do one of two things: either cut above a growth node to induce more branching; or cut below a node and put that cutting into soil to start a new plant! I start the growing season with only a few plants, and by the end of summer I have dozens!

I've got to remember to do this more! More basil I don't have to work for is always appreciated 😁

1625 Aloe plants create little pups. Pull and plant. Mulberry is super easy to propagate, similar to figs. Pineapple tops. Cut off the tops. Remove some of the bottom leaves to expose the base to the soil. Stick in dirt. Tomatoes. Pull of young suckers. Place in a pot. Immortal tomatoes! That's all I could think of so far. :)
@NextdoorHomestead Жыл бұрын
Thanks Ron! I wanted to do tomatoes but didn't want to make it a twenty minute video 😁

Also, I just picked up a mulberry, I'll have to try that out!
@RonSRY Жыл бұрын
@@NextdoorHomestead Did you pick up a cutting or a nursery plant?. My cuttings were fruiting after 4 months. I pulled the fruit off just to let it focus on roots and growing. Made about 20. Neglected them. Got 10. Kept 2 and gave the rest away. I'm growing Thai Mulberry (Morus alba)

@@RonSRY We grabbed a tiny sapling off Etsy actually! It seems to be doing fine, but we have it in a pot in the shade so I'm not expecting much out of it. Just think they're cool plants. I'd like to propagate it though because I know some folks who would love one.

Lilacs are very easy to start from cuttings. I didn't succeed with my grapes, but I may try again because I didn't know about stripping the stem. Thanks for the video.

Totally inspired! Just prepped nd planted 6 blackberries, 12 blueberries (4 each 3 varieties) and 6 lemon balm. I baught the root hormone months ago intending to do this and just forgot about doing it. Done and done. ✔
@NextdoorHomestead Жыл бұрын
YES! Absolute best of luck. I bet you get great rooting on the lemon balm and decent results on the berries. Blueberries are the toughest out of those three in my experience so I'm glad you did lots. Let us know how it goes in a few months =)

I have found as long as your donating plant has been fed in the week before having its parts cut for propagation, there is no need for rooting hormone. Unless you KNOW the cuttings are very difficult to propagate, there is no need for rooting hormone .

Heya! Thanks for sharing your experiences Carrie. I do want to look into studies on efficacy as right now I can only cite that it seems to help for us 😁

The advice I've seen for propagating in the past recommended not putting your plants directly into the container of hormone, but pouring some out into another container instead... which has honestly wasted me a lot of the powder. Have you ever seen any problems from dipping right into the container it came in?
@NextdoorHomestead Жыл бұрын
I used to and came to the same conclusion you did, it can be a waste. I just try to make the cuttings clean and dry first now.
