In this video I will be showing you how to grow fuchsias indoors under lights. Some people ask can you grow fuchsias indoors the answer is yes. This is the best way that I have found to over winter fuchsia plants indoors.

Carrie. Just reviewing your Fuchsia videos. Such beautiful and healthy plants you have here. I am trying to learn about overwintering these. You keep them growing all winter. Others talk about putting them into dormancy until spring. I am learning pros/cons to both. Can you give us an account of how these plants respond in the next growing after growing and blooming all winter?

I have a question about growing fuchsias. I live in Texas. They do well here in spring but die before our typical tropical heat starts. I love them and am trying to figure out how to grow them here. I'm seeing you grow yours indoors. Do you think they would thrive here in Texas indoors as well? My home is centrally cooled and usually stays below 80f when the air works non stop..I have plenty of humidity here. Do you think they would thrive here in my house if I grow them with my African violets in these conditions? Please let me know what you think.

It depends on the variety. Some of the older double fuchsias are harder to grow. Southgate is really difficult to grow. It was wintertime when I did that video and fuchsias will not survive our winters so that is why they where growing indoors at that time. I have heard of people growing their fuchsias indoors as a houseplant. If it was me I would try it. You will want to turn the plant every few days to make sure it grows evenly around. I hope that helps you.

You reckon these can be grown from seed? There are a few colours I can't find in the local nurseries so I was thinking about growing from seed. Thanks.
@carriesgardeningchannel8565 жыл бұрын
Hi Sasha, I don't know where you can get fuchsia seeds at. From what I've read they are a challenge to grow from seed. Most of your fuchsias are hybrids so they will not seed true if you would collect seeds off of the plants. You can try requesting to see if the nurseries that you shop at could get the varieties that you are looking for. I would also try looking for the rooted plugs to buy. Your welcome. Happy Gardening! Carrie

How do you encourage a thicker trunk without a giant bit of bush? Pruning?
@carriesgardeningchannel8564 жыл бұрын
The thicker trunk should come with age of the plant.

Beautiful! How long do the blooms look good? Thanks for sharing!
@carriesgardeningchannel8564 жыл бұрын
Thank you and your welcome! The blooms can last for a few days it depends on if the plants get dry, temperatures, how much sun they get, pest issues can affect how long the blooms last. I hope that answers your question

Hi Carrie I need a bit more help. How far away from the growlight should I put the fuchsia? I've had an elderly neighbour just today ask if I can try to keep hers growing in my house for the winter here in Zone5b. I'm so nervous to not kill her gorgeous plant 🥴. Also should we maybe trim it back ? The plan is if I'm successful to take cuttings from it in March. Wish me luck 🤞🏻

Hi, Mine where not really close to the plant. I don't have that stand anymore to measure it for the height. I don't trim mine back but they will loose a lot of their leaves. Are you using a regular grow light?

How long does each flower last?
@carriesgardeningchannel8563 жыл бұрын
That depends on the temperatures and if the plant dried out. Normally they last pretty good.

Growing Fuchsias indoors is not a good idea as the flowers will not be true size. Always grow outdoors for full size healthier blooms.
@carriesgardeningchannel8563 жыл бұрын
When you use artificial lighting like these fuchsia plants are under and you feed your plants they grow and bloom just fine. These plants where being overwintered indoors for taking back out when the weather was suitable for them again.

@@carriesgardeningchannel856 Hello here in the UK we let our Fuchsias rest over winter and strip off all the leaves and flowers and place in a frost free garages or greenhouses. We never let them flower or feed them in the winter either, but if it works for you then that is fine.
@carriesgardeningchannel8563 жыл бұрын
I tired something close to that method before and I lost all of the fuchsias. I used the artificial lighting before I had my greenhouses, now I overwinter them in the heated greenhouses.
