What a great setup! I’m impressed that you don’t know them on an hydroponic system as most commercial growers do! I love that you use soil and with worms and everything. Outstanding!

Great idea on the plastic sheeting to reflect the light upwards. In our backyard garden we use a red plastic sheeting which is supposed to reflect the optimum light spectrum for maximum production. We grow determinent tomatoes since it's for our own use only but still manage about 15 lbs per plant in our case.

The best method is to introduce bumble bee hives, but in the absence of that you can shake the wire daily to distribute the pollen.

guys, been born in a farming environment and this stuff comes natural, however when you have lost it all, it seems impossible to find any investors willing to help you get back on your feet again. land, greenhouses, soil preparation, irrigation etc is real expensive. think i scoured the planet for angel investors, VC firms etc and the answer keeps being no. So I dont know what to do anymore. I live in South Africa.

@Henryprofile.

You said “lower lean them and start a new”. What do you mean by start a new? Are you saying you pick another stem on that same plant and focus on that stem growing vertically until it touches the top again and then you repeat the process?

I have a question. Maybe someone here can help me with this. I am located in Georgia and next year I will be trying to grow around 450 tomato plants in two high tunnels. I want to graft all the tomatoes and I also want to hard prune them so that each one has two main stems. Just not sure which I should do first. Should I hard prune first to get the two leaders and then graft that to the root stock or should I graft the tomatoes first and once they are healed then do the hard prune to produce the two leaders. Can't seem to fine much info on this. Please help.

Doesn't the plastic ground cover have a huge benefit that was not discussed- as far as minimizing disease? The leaves look extraordinarily green and spotless.

Hydroponics will never replace soil grown crops at least not in the taste department. Soil is indispensable. Although I am not too sure how growers deal with the need for crop rotation.

probably 3 feet - that is a common spacing. usual in row is 1 head per ft of row for beefsteak and 2 heads per ft row for cherry/grape/paste

Curious why you went with the tomahook setup, and not the Qlipr system? From an efficiency perspective, I would've thought the opposite, and I'm wondering why you went that route?
