How's she goin'? Sorry for not dropping by more regular Pascal but for some reason or another I was missing your posts. Wow you have yourself a load of Basil there buddy!!! It must be good to be able to grow nearly anything in your climate eh!!! Our growing season is maybe 3 or 4 months long and even then we are risking frost damage. Thanks of sharing and take care!!

what Ph level should the soil be? In the summer I was able to grow the sweet basil and was so happy. They’re old now so I may need to plant more. I want to taste the Tulsi and Thai basil but not so successful during this rainy season.
@growNglow
@growNglow 3 жыл бұрын
Basil is not fussy regarding ph, although 6.0 is considered ideal. If there is heavy rain on your seed tray that would not be good. They do not need light until they germinate, so you could leave them under a shelter. When they sprout up the do need sun. Basil loves sun.

@@growNglow Thanks. We haven’t seen much sun here in Manila for 3 weeks and my Tulsi seedlings died already. I will copy what you did with your Ramgo seeds and grow them inside with artificial lights temporarily. Thanks for the advice.

where are you? Do they grow well in, say, northern Illinois? By the way, I was taught by an old master gardener that you always want to water seedlings with warm water--not quite hot but not far from it. Cold water slows down development....which is not to say that you are not a mater gardener yourself.

I am in Southern Leyte, The Philippines. I am not sure if they would withstand the winter up there near the great lakes, but you can certainly grow in the summer, and even bring indoors during the fall. You can also propagate cuttings in water. They root out in 5 days. Water is not cold here. Thank you for watching.

If you want to grow Tulsi in Northern Illinois, here are some tips: 1. Get a small plant from somewhere to begin with. 2. Outdoor times- Between Mid June to mid September. Bring them indoors in mid September 3. keep tulsi on a window sill where you get plenty of sunshine but have NO heat vent. Hot air from vents kill Tulsi. 4. If you don’t have any window where sunshine comes or have heat vents near it, best to buy plant grow bulb and keep it 8-12” over the tulsi plant. 5. No matter if the weather gets better or over 80 in May, DO NOT PUT TULSI OUT BEFORE JUNE. It’s a delicate plant and needs love. Good luck.
