@@epicgardening I just took another look, filled with buds and new lower leaves are green, I bought it with light leaves, but it had such a cool shape I thought it was worth fixing. I eat them with salads and mostly fragment them into super salty kumquat. After the fresh kumquats are dried from washings. Put 1inch of salt at the bottom of a clean jar. Place the kumquat on top of the salt. And put another 1 inch salt on top of the kumquats. That’s how it’s done in traditional Chinese way. No need to add water just the salt don’t use it till after a year. It’s normal to see it turn watery, it’s because the salt sweating the juices from kumquats. It’s great for cold and sore throat. A Chinese housewife remedies. Put one salty kumquat in a 6 or 8 oz cup add little honey and thin slice of ginger (optional with the ginger) with hot water.

I love kumquats! We have one in a pot, but I need more kumquats so I took a cutting which rooted nicely and now I have it planted in the ground in front of the south side of the house. I'm hoping with kumquats being one of the most cold-hardy citrus that it will do well there. I also have two growing from seed already in the ground which survived the winter without much issue so it'll be interesting to see how the fruit turns out on those since of course it won't be exactly like the parent. And another reason I like kumquats is because they need so little work to grow - I haven't had any real pest issues and basically all I do is water and fertilize it.

My kumquat of 8 years made sticky sap everywhere inside in the winter, but a grow light (boosting our windows) has nearly eliminated that issue -- not completely sapless, but the effect goes away in summer once it's outside again, zone 6. Also, more fruit has reached full ripeness as a bright deep orange instead of yellowish.

@@themarkjr A couple of blueberry species are native down to around Houston - not sure where you are exactly or how the weather differs but you may want to see if you can find anyone local growing them. Rabbiteye (Vaccinium virgatum) and Highbush (Vaccinium corymbosum) bluberries are two commercially grown southern species that grow in hot areas. For raspberries Dorman Red is supposed to be a good heat, drought, and disease resistant variety, though I haven't personally grown them. I asked her if it hurt the plant and if she deletes it with water or if she rinses it off real good afterwards and she said “nope!” After an entire summer of trying to figure out how to get rid of and really bugs and with all these concoctions and disgusting smelling neem oil that almost killed him at plants....😑I was super doubtful of this being OK for the plants as it seems like it’s super harsh but also she has always had a really big and productive garden so I figured what the hell and I tried it and it is amazing it cost like $.75 or something and you don’t need to mix anything or rented or do anything special I just take straight rubbing alcohol in a spray bottle and spray and all the bugs are gone and the plants are doing great
