Iron / nitrogen I THINK, or water issue

@@epicgardening I just took another look, filled with buds and new lower leaves are green, I bought it with light leaves, but it had such a cool shape I thought it was worth fixing. It came full of fruit... I poked 3 nails in around it for iron, what's a quick fix for nitrogen? What do your plants think no aerosols, not one stripe in the sky? Looked like I steamed my radish leaves today.

I eat them with salads and mostly fragment them into super salty kumquat. After the fresh kumquats are dried from washings. Put 1inch of salt at the bottom of a clean jar. Place the kumquat on top of the salt. And put another 1 inch salt on top of the kumquats. That’s how it’s done in traditional Chinese way. No need to add water just the salt don’t use it till after a year. It’s normal to see it turn watery, it’s because the salt sweating the juices from kumquats. It’s great for cold and sore throat. A Chinese housewife remedies. Put one salty kumquat in a 6 or 8 oz cup add little honey and thin slice of ginger (optional with the ginger) with hot water.

EG didn't show putting stones/pebbles over the hole(s) in the bottom of his pot, to help with drainage, so that the roots don't sit in water or become compacted, which might be what upset those dislikers. Or perhaps being in lock-down is just getting to them?

I love kumquats! We have one in a pot, but I need more kumquats so I took a cutting which rooted nicely and now I have it planted in the ground in front of the south side of the house. I'm hoping with kumquats being one of the most cold-hardy citrus that it will do well there. I also have two growing from seed already in the ground which survived the winter without much issue so it'll be interesting to see how the fruit turns out on those since of course it won't be exactly like the parent. And another reason I like kumquats is because they need so little work to grow - I haven't had any real pest issues and basically all I do is water and fertilize it.

My kumquat of 8 years made sticky sap everywhere inside in the winter, but a grow light (boosting our windows) has nearly eliminated that issue -- not completely sapless, but the effect goes away in summer once it's outside again, zone 6. Also, more fruit has reached full ripeness as a bright deep orange instead of yellowish.

@@epicgardening that would be awesome! The tips you shared in this one are good. I'm thinking I may need to remove them all from their pots and start over with fresh citrus soil. I have a couple lemons grown from seed, a few thornless limes from hard cuttings, and one kumquat (I think nagami) that was shipped as a small tree. The limes are the only ones that have flowered. I feed a few times a year from spring to fall in zone 7. It goes from chilly to blistering heat in one day sometimes in Georgia. It's a gamble, I guess!

Maybe??....I don’t knowif I really did that though ---anyway it made my plants really really happy. Obviously I had to rinse off in the sea weed that I might have got tangled in my hair in the sand that came home on my feet 😐 I didn’t mean to bring home hitchhikers in my car by mistake… And I wasn’t sure what kind of effect it would have on my plants but I know they sell seaweed fertilizer and my planTs werent doing great so.... i tried it and it made em really really happy for once! (I mixed some in with my compost and then some of it I just laid on top like fertilizer.. I mean mulch😩 Or both I guess !

@@themarkjr A couple of blueberry species are native down to around Houston - not sure where you are exactly or how the weather differs but you may want to see if you can find anyone local growing them. Rabbiteye (Vaccinium virgatum) and Highbush (Vaccinium corymbosum) bluberries are two commercially grown southern species that grow in hot areas. For raspberries Dorman Red is supposed to be a good heat, drought, and disease resistant variety, though I haven't personally grown them. I've never eaten a kumquat before and went out on a limb (😁) when I saw it available online. Love your videos! I'm new to gardening and I have an outdoor kumquat planted n the garden. Has looked beautiful since August when I moved to this place (Orange County) until now. It had a ton of blooms and now it is dropping blooms. Overall it's actually not looking too good. Any ideas what's going on? I gave it some citrus fertilizer (Jack's) about a month earlier. Kumquats are my favorite and I was so hoping for an EPIC kumquat tree so I'm super bummed. Thanks for any tips from anyone reading!

By the way my mom is to have a garden in our backyard and I asked her how to get rid of scale bugs and she told me she sprays 70%rubbing alcohol 70% on them. I asked her if it hurt the plant and if she deletes it with water or if she rinses it off real good afterwards and she said “nope!” After an entire summer of trying to figure out how to get rid of and really bugs and with all these concoctions and disgusting smelling neem oil that almost killed him at plants....😑I was super doubtful of this being OK for the plants as it seems like it’s super harsh but also she has always had a really big and productive garden so I figured what the hell and I tried it and it is amazing it cost like $.75 or something and you don’t need to mix anything or rented or do anything special I just take straight rubbing alcohol in a spray bottle and spray and all the bugs are gone and the plants are doing great

I’m sorry I’m always speaking my comments into my phone and it is way too hard to edit them so I’m sure there’s stuff that’s hard to be there interpreted I apologize. But I’m not proofreading and I think that you could figure it out regardless of a few words being incorrect here in there but sorry about that

I’m growing from seed because I can’t find anyone selling kumquat plants near me. I hope in about 3 years I’ll have fruit 🤞

Hey Keven, I have a kumquat tree also from fast growing trees. I’m stuck on knowing when to water it. The soil is made for citrus, I have it in a terracotta pot. Anyway, the soil never stays wet for long and dries out pretty fast. Anyway the soil always dries out faster than the root ball. I stick my finger down about 3 inches and the soil is dry but the root ball is damp. So should I water or hold off on watering until the root ball dries out faster??

How large will the kumquat grow in a pot and does it need to be pruned? Can it be permanently kept in a pot, how often does it need organic fertilizer?
