Very nice video. You have not stated how the soil has been prepared in which proportion such as soil, cow dung manure etc.

It would be better to remove the entire root ball from the pot and gently break the soil away to get the canes out without damaging the roots. You stated that you put them in the soil only 2 inches deep. They were put in much deeper than that. Good results. It is always rewarding when our projects work.
