I know I'll be watching it again and again, as I currently have my lavender seeds in the fridge going through stratification! Wow, I'm just blown away at the success rate you had with your seeds. Hi Graeme. Thanks for your appreciation. I collect the seeds at end of summer (September). Put them in the refrigerator Mid January and begin germination indoors in February. Keep safe.

I find It’s a bit easier if you dampen a paper towel and stratify them as well as germinate first. Then transplant the tiny sprouts directly into soil. GREAT video!!

I just gathered seeds as you’ve shown! Now I want to put on my calendar when I should put the seeds in the refrigerator, so I need to know how to o put extra the date I want to plant them. I’m in a 8b. Thanks! When do I want to plan to put the little seedlings outside in the garden? Should I harden the little seedlings off before putting them in the ground? Could I just set them out in pots until they are bigger and hardier? What should I do about soil amendment in the garden for lavender?
@LearnHow23 жыл бұрын
Put the seeds in the refrigerator in early January. Keep warm indoors while the seedlings germinate until the plants are about 2 to 3cm tall, then harden them off. You can start them in pots to save you having to transplant. They grow best in direct sunlight in fast draining soil - not damp or cold. They prefer poor, dry or moderately fertile soil, including chalky and alkaline soils. Keep safe.

Do you water the covered box when kept for germination ?
@sub04aru2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the video. One question, the established lavender plant you show at the end, is that from one single seedling or did you combine many seedlings to make one lavender hedge? Not clear if lavender continues to grow outward or if it’s many plants bunched together.
@LearnHow22 жыл бұрын
It is from a single seedling. One seedling can grow to about one meter wide. Keep safe.

Congratulations on your video very instructive and very interesting, I have a few questions hope it's no bugger to ask. First of all is the fridge process a must or can I plant them in the soil if the temperature drops low in my area? Like under 0° celsius. Is there any suggestions you can give me for planting them in a very clay rich soil environment? Also how much can I prune a plant without damaging it to get seeds from it (end of August) Thanks in advance!
@LearnHow24 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your appreciation. I have a very rich clay soil and dont give the plants any special treatment...put them in the soil and off they go with no help other than watering. I also leave seeds that have fallen to ground over winter - some germinate so yes you could miss out the refrigeration. When pruning I normally cut back by two thirds at end of summer.

What's the difference between keeping the seeds in the fridge for 3-4 weeks vs. in the freezer over night. I've tried to leaving the seeds in the freezer overnight and the seeds germinated fine 3 days later, but I just wanted to know does it have it have any impact on how the plants will turn out long term?

I have read that freezing and thawing speeds up the process but I have never tried your method. Keep safe.
