My hair is at waist length but it shrinks to a little above my shoulders no matter what I do to stretch it. The longer it is the more it shrinks. I just want to wear my hair long 🥲
@amytarie.10 ай бұрын
Ugh I def know the struggle 😭 I feel like in order for us to have hang time in it's most curly shrunken state, it would have to be like thigh or knee length when stretched. Especially on type 4 hair cause the shrinkage is really extreme.
@gloriaaguh588510 ай бұрын
I've noticed that most type 4 people who have thigh length to knee length hair don't do wash and go's at all. Rather they do braid outs or twist outs. Why is this so? Most people prefer to air dry their wash and go's and then band it in order to stretch it after it's dried. I've seen only one person who did it differently. She puts her wet hair in a loose bun and lets her hair dry in that state before taking it down. Her hair was well elongated and long. Although she's thigh length, her curly hair is at waist length. Her hair type is 3c/4a. I've been wondering won't this method work for type 4 hair? I'd love to see someone try it. She called herself Earthly Ram but now goes by La8er Ivy.

@@erejo3274 Protective styles, water & vitamins don't prevent you from getting split ends. You only really need to trim your ends if you have splits or if it's thinning towards the bottom ( personal preference ) but if you don't have those issues then you're fine.

@@erejo3274 with natural hair, splits and single strand knots are inevitable no matter what you do. Although, the degree maybe different from person to person. Girl yes I swear it's a SCAM! I'm srry you had to experience that too. Yes try long term protective styling for 3 months at a time if you can it will CHANGE your life! Length retention is CRAZY! Be careful with the take down process too by putting conditioner in your hair BEFORE washing with shampoo & let it sit for like 30min.-1hr. It's crucial. Less breakage / shed hair from being so dry for so long in braids / twists. Trimming is still important tho ☝🏾so I recommend 1x trim per year. & I can't tell you how much to cut off, but as for me & my house lol we will cut no more than an inch 😭 ( but that's just me being extreme )

@amytarie.9 ай бұрын
Hi Newbie 👋🏾🥰 welcome to the club! Glad you could make it. Yes, start with bi-weekly & see how that works for you. Tbh if you don't want to/ feel like you can't make 1 month, don't feel pressured to do so. Do w.e works best for you. I only do a month b/c for that entire month my hair is put away in twist/braids. But if my hair was out most of the time like in a wash-n-go state, I would prob wash every 2 weeks too ( it's more prone to product build-up if your styling it daily). I would prob feel like my scalp is too dirty or that my hair would become unmanageable after 2+ weeks of it just being out. Especially for an entire month before re-washing.

Hey bae, so srry to hear this :( God bless you. Ask your doctor if you can take iron pills and biotin if you already haven't. I would make sure my health is a priority 1st so that the physical can follow naturally next. Then I would go back through the vid. & do a checklist of your hair care routine to see if you notice anything you may or may not be doing that is contributing to additional hair loss. ( using a comb instead of finger detangling, improper takedown of protective styles, not wearing protective styles long enough, changing hairstyles too often, trimming too often, not moisturizing properly etc. ) Hope that helps ❤🩹

Hi love 👋🏾☺️ so it depends on how much your hair grows within a month. If your hair only grows 1/2 in. per month that’s okay. Mine does too! I would say keep track of your progress in the notes app on your phone 📱 or in a notebook ✏️ 📓 that way no matter how much it grows within that month or couple months, you’ll be certain it’s progressing by keeping score. If you are tracking your progress but notice the numbers are staying the same, or even decreasing, you should revaluate your hair are routine & what you are possibly doing to lose hair. & be patient, you will def reach your goals, don’t worry :)

Hello, I love your video! Speaking of hairdressers, and the fact that you lost 2 inches in a week. I experience the same thing! Although, I think I lost a lil more hair, so count your blessings, and I took my hair down in just 3 days. 🙄 I had got a sew-in and maybe the 1st red flag should have been when I came into the salon all of her regulars had chin length hair, but I sat in that chair and allowed her to rip through my hair and I felt like an idiot afterwards, and she braided it so tight my head throbbed all day & night, and I just didn't wanna take it down because I had paid so much money, but my dad literally gave me the best advice ever on the third day. He said, "you have already paid the money for this style, and so that's gone, but what else are you willing to pay?" and he was suggesting that if I continued with the style for the sake of "Getting my money's worth" that I may come to pay for the style with permanent hair lost/damage.

@amytarie.7 ай бұрын
So when I take my twists down after a long time I always make sure to pre-poo 1st so that I don't lose more hair than necessary because my hair gets tangled too. I usually pre-poo for 1hr then finger detangle outside the shower or sometimes in. All the moisture from the conditioner & water will help loosen up the dirt, product build-up etc. so that it's easier to detangle. I also have an updated wash day routine if you need a visual :) hope that helps & answers your Q !

Yes! So your hair is growing but somewhere in your routine of things you are not retaining as much length as possible to see those results. All the braids do is keep your hands out of your hair for a while but when they are not in braids what are you doing it to? That matters too. If you haven’t made any of the mistakes I made , then just would re-access your hair care routine to see what you may be potentially doing that’s causing you not to retain as much length as you could be. It’s small things like - do you use a comb? How often do you detangle ? How often do you restyle your hair ? etc. it’s all in the details. My main methodology is - the less I touch it the longer it gets.
@ShaiLai10 ай бұрын
@@amytarie. then I'd have to guess the products I use cause I only wash/style my hair once every 2 weeks and I always finger detangle before combing
@amytarie.10 ай бұрын
@@ShaiLai Tbh I highly doubt it's the products. It gotta be something you're doing or not doing. Try not using a comb anymore & only your fingers & see if that helps. Also, keep your braids in at least 1 whole month instead of 2 weeks. When it's time to take the braids out, pre-poo w/ conditioner 1st for a least 30min.-1hr. ( really 1hr at best) to get your hair softer & ready for shampoo which is v drying. If you go straight into shampoo after taking the braids out you might experience more hair loss / shed. Make sure to track your growth monthly! How many inches are you rn?

I don't know who can help me. My hair is at waist length when blowed out, but when curly it _grazes_ my shoulders. Now I know, you guys are going to tell me stretch out my hair. The thing is, i have 3b curls(that are really defined naturally) on majority of my head(my edges section is 3c and right on top it's 3a-3b). So when i stretch it out, one part of my hair looks super straight and then another part will be really really curly. So i cant stretch it out cause it looks really funny. And no matter what i do, my hair wont go past my shoulders(and i don't diffuse or scrunch my hair)despite me seeing the growth if i straighten my hair. My hair does get bigger the more it grows though, but i want length Can anyone help me please🙏
@amytarie.8 ай бұрын
I want to understand your Q better :) Are you just trying to have your hair in it's curly state get longer past your shoulders ? ( get rid of shrinkage without stretching it )
@hmmmnope24558 ай бұрын
@@amytarie. Hi Amy, yes that's what I want to do
@amytarie.8 ай бұрын
@@hmmmnope2455 Okay so essentially the only way to do that is to grow your hair longer. If your hair is really long like knee length for example when stretched, then it'll prob be somewhere around your lower back when shrunken.

Are you moisturizing your hair in between washing monthly? If so, what's your routine and products? I want to move to washing once a month too but my hair dries out quick.
@amytarie.10 ай бұрын
I don't, only b/c I wear my hair in braids or twists 90% of the year 😬 so when I do moisturize, it's usually on wash day that 1x per month after shampoo & deep conditioning. I usually use whatever is thick like shea moisture, or Camille rose or lotta body creams etc. ( Not really loyal to one brand tho ) and use Castor Oil, and Amala Oil. If I did not wear my hair in a protective style 24/7 then I'm sure I would re-moisturize my hair every week if it even lasts that long depending on what "style" I have it in ( braids outs , wash n go's ect. ) Hope that helps :)
@tfife10 ай бұрын
@amytarie. It does, thank you. I wear my hair in twists 90% of the time but without added hair but it's dry 3 days after washing 🤦🏾♀️

@@tfife ohh 😯 hmm, what porosity are you?
@tfife10 ай бұрын
I think it's high, but my hair isn't colored or damaged so who knows 🤦🏾♀️
@amytarie.10 ай бұрын
@@tfife Okay take a porosity test just in case. Super easy & quick at home with a glass of water. If you are high por. try to use heavier / thicker products & oils to seal ( what I've already suggested ) & see if that helps. I have low por. so my hair already holds onto w.e moisture it gets, for a long time ( ex. my hair can take 2 days to air dry if not assisted ) so on top of applying heavier products myself it stays moisturized for a good min. So yeah, assess your products and review recommended products for high por. if that's your hair type.

what is your opinion on oiling hair every night?
@amytarie.9 ай бұрын
Personally , I wouldn't. I believe it would clog your pores? I think oiling your hair / scalp 1x max 2x per week is more than enough. Your head also already produces it's own sebum ( oil ) so you don't have to do too much :) Hope that helps

If my hair is not currently in a protective style ( twists or braids ) then yes, I do re-braid my hair for a braid out every night and loose out in the a.m. However, it's not a prob for me b/c not only do I only do 4 braids max. but I usually only do braid outs for 3-7 days until I install the nxt protec. style.

Can I relax my hair and still keep it healthy
@amytarie.10 ай бұрын
Tbh, idk I’ve never relaxed my hair. My opinion though .. relaxing your hair involves chemically processing it, which to me anything that permanently altars your natural hair state is damaging. So I would say no … but I’m sure someone else would say yes. You can search vids on how to have “healthy” relaxed hair I’m sure someone will give their advice on it.
