Finally!!! someone who agrees with me about limiting trims. I left my stylist because she demanded to trim my ends a half inch EVERY 6 WEEKS!!! My Hair grows a half inch every 8 weeks!!! Do the math people please. lol. My sister still trims her hair every 6 weeks and My hair is now at least 5 or 6 inches longer than hers is. When we used to have the same length. She just doesn't get it. Stop cutting your hair if you want it to grow :)

depends on how you define 'trimming' I basically dust on the fairy knots and split ends that get caught in my comb. It staves off breakage making my hair easier to detangle and I do it every 5 months. before I started trimming my hair would break off, so trimming for me helped in length retention

Very enjoyable video! The less trimming tip is so hard for most people to grasp. They are hard wired to trim on a schedule. Chicoro's book "Grow it" really helps with this concept. Sometimes what we think are splits or bad ends are just lead hairs. She recommends letting the lead hairs get so far and then after so many inches cut back up to the bulk of your hair. Where ever the lead hairs reach, the bulk of you hair length Will get there.

This video is hands down the best video I've ever watched on retaining length. I had to pause it just to grab my water bottle and vitamins, like you we're saying "go take them vitamins." I was so horrible to my hair a few yrs back. I trimmed it once a week, after every wash ( 😢 umm that's why it won't grow). The ends we're so dry from dying it. I got happy one day and put heat on it without heat protection. Girl!!!! Now, I'm so gentle with it and it's getting better. Thanks for the clarity, knowledge and laughs. 😅👏👏👏

Hello fellow natural I just wanted to let you know that I really enjoyed your tips. You are so right if your taking good care of your hair and being gentle and not using heat. Good healthy practices. It's so true you don't have to be trimming those ends all the time. I was following the trap oh I have to trim my ends every 3 months. My ends really didn't need trimming. I take darn care of my hair like you, I use no heat. I have been natural for 4 years. I have to say you have such beautiful long natural hair. I will probably trim once a year that's fine for me. Great video fellow natural.😊

Thank you for this video! I suffered from alopecia areata (I and md feel like it's triggered by stress) and eczema and had to cut all my hair off a year ago and see a dermatologist. I went completely natural and am trying to get it back to a decent length now that the spots have filled in. I find good health, not stressing, protective styling, moisture (inside and out!), and not getting "scissor happy" have really helped. Thank you for exposing this myth about trimming! I have been told that if I don't trim my hair every 6-8 weeks, I won't retain length and was happy to hear you explain that that's not always the case! I'm subscribing. #feelingencouraged

Staying away from heat helps but I really wish people would stop making it seem like you're going to totally eff up your hair. If you're NEW to the natural thing / transitioning, of course stay away from is as much as possible but don't let people make you feel like straightening your hair one time or even 2 times a year is going to make you go bald lol
@KinkyKoilyKayla8 жыл бұрын
+Tanisha Williams Yes!! I straightened my hair for almost 3 and 1/2 straight. Every month or two I was in the salon getting a silk press. I just have a little bit of heat damage (about 5 small pieces) in the front but not all over my head. I still straighten my hair but not as often. I'm trying for 3 times a year now but heat is not the end of the world. It's hair. It'll grow back
@memesimone21217 жыл бұрын
yes but it only takes 1 time to damage your hair. you may do it 20 times a year but it only takes once for everything to change. I had heat damage from a simple protective style bc the blow dryer she used was ridiculously high. I'm still in recovery.

I think another important thing that may have not been mention is protein. I noticed when I co-washed, a lot my hair retained more length when I balanced the over-moisturization with protein to strengthen my strands. Protein is helpful in keeping the ends strong, which retains more length. Great video!

I am currently at the TWA stage of my natural hair journey. As my hair grows out notice that my hair becomes difficult to detangle, my hair is frizzy (less definition), and the shape of my cut is awkward. I goto a professional on a as needed basis to get my hair trimmed. Since my trim, my hair is easier to detangle and my curls are more defined. Everyone's hair has different needs.
