Olá querida Josefina ❤️ Dias frios mas que sol lindo. As orquídeas estavam tristes com a falta de luminosidade mas penso que agora vai ficar mais animadas. Com toda a chuva até perdi alguns catos. E o meu jardim de suculentas anda muito desprezado,. primeiro a chuva e agora o frio. Nem sei como vou conseguir mas vou precisar de refazer tudo. They have grown a lot lately, in such a way that the space is full. If I want more of these hybrids I will have to let others go. No problem, I can give them to my daughter. Still I will only replace the ones I have if something very special gets in my way. However, I still have space for the species Phalaenopsis which is in my lounge and I am giving them priority now. Beautifully growing phalaenopsis ... wow! 😍 I have rescue phal envy. Insolence had stem watering day the past 24hrs. Now back to dry. I looked at the label of a product I have which I never investigated because of the tiny writing of the label, I could not read. I googled it and the product is amino acids. I opened the bottle and remembered a similar smell of the product quantum I used to use in 2018 and 2019. Sooooo I used that for Insolence the past 24 hrs and then I will alternate with seaweed. So much dedicated work growing in water culture. But very rewarding for sure! Nice to see blue skies over your private paradise ❤❤

Hi dear Nina!!! Fingers crossed for Insolence, especially for having been a gift from your daughter. I hear Phals can live long even without a growing point. The major problema is the poor root system. And so, I hope the Amino Acids and the calmag help with growing new roots. If you can't recover it, no one can. So difficult to recover orchids that are not vigorous to start with 🙄 and I have plenty of that, believe me. I used to think it was my fault that they don't do well but if it were the case, why success with some and failure with others? Win some, lose some 😬 It looks like that with orchids we are restarting all the time.Hoping for the best 😍😍😍😍

Your phals are so pampered..😊 . Mine are by the kitchen window also best spot in the house yet cheapest orchids. Your phals are so healthy overall, so pretty even with the hidden sun damaged leaves. They are nicely staked too. Thanks for sharing.

Olá amiga!!! Bom domingo!!!! A cultura de agua é ótima para cultivar dentro de casa. Eu sinto-me muito confortável com este método. E embora haja muita gente contra, dizendo que não dá certo, a verdade é que as orquídeas epífitas podem cultivar-se de muitas formas. Tudo o que é preciso é estarmos confortáveis com o método que usamos e que o adaptemos ás nossas circunstâncias. No fundo, é como cultivar Vandas. Elas também se cultivam tradicionalmente molhando e deixando secar. Na chamada cultura de agua para Phalaenopsis usam-se algumas "regras" mas eu quase as ignoro e uso o meu bom senso e observação das raízes pois nem todas as Phal respondem da mesma forma. As regras a que me refiro são: Método 1 : raízes com agua de forma permanente, apenas um pouquinho no fundo do recipiente, sempre embora sendo renovada de forma semanal. Método 2 : raízes com agua até cerca de 3 terços das raízes por 2 dias e depois despeja e mantem as raízes secas por 5 dias. No fundo será este um sistema de rega para uma semana. O que eu uso é uma mistura dos dois métodos, dependendo da temperatura e da duração do dia, se é verão ou inverno. Quando mudo de casca para agua eu começo por colocar em agua por um dia e deixar secar no seguinte. Isto durante uns dias. Logo aí eu já vejo como se comportam as raízes, se gostam mais de agua ou se prefeririam menos tempo dentro dela. É aí que necessitam de mais atenção. É natural que algumas raízes se percam mas essas são raízes que já não estariam tão boas e que com o tempo se perderiam mesmo em casca. O que posso dizer é que eu nunca perdi uma Phal por colocar em cultura de agua mas como lhe digo, eu sinto-me confortável com este método, o que não acontece com toda a gente. Na realidade exige mais atenção que outros métodos. Se precisar de mais alguma informação mais especifica diga, por favor. Beijinhos 😘😘😘😘

Your phals look so happy with shiny leaves and lots of flowers spikes. I used to grow in full water culture, perhaps I'll give one or two of mine a try in that method now that we have brighter days. Our temperatures are lower here in England around 8c today, like you, we are compensated with bright blue skies. Is your Magnolia tree flowering already, ours are only just starting to swell their buds. Thanks for sharing Fernanda.

I haven't tried that yet, partly because I'd HAVE to clean algae like you regularly, which I just don't have time for. I see all your beautiful succulents and seen your videos of your Epiphyllum oxipetalum blooms. 😍A thrill to watch these stunning blooms open, hey?! 🥳😍🥰 I had 4 blooms on my oxipetalum last year, as well as many blooms on four other noid epies that were handed to me for adoption. I'll have to send you some photos, and photos of my pink Echinopsis oxygona. My oxygona is 3 years old now, and with the added strength is now pushing 3 buds which should open pretty close together. Seeing these 5 in./13cm diameter blooms and length 8 in/20cm hanging out from the cactus is something to behold. Have a glorious day/evening Fernanda! 🤗💖

Hi Robi, thank you for your lovely comment. Water culture was a saving grace for my Phals and me, because before that they did not seem to do well enough. I also love to watch the roots through the glass 🤣 The wonderful part about growing orchids is that they adapt to a diversity of set ups and we just have to choose what makes them and us more comfortable with, like a compromise between humans and orchids. Oh I see you are also a succulent lover, that is wonderful. Lovely plants, too. My oxipetalum was a real treat this year. Other than the blooms I featured in the time lapse I had many other all thru summer. What a treat. The plant is in its growing mode now and getting bushier. I have other queens of the night of different genera which never bloomed. I hope they do it this year, I am looking forward to that. Echinopsis oxygona in bloom, wow, it should be quite a show and this early in the season, too. They smell lovely. Mine are very small yet but I have had blooms from Echinopsis subdenudata which are pretty similar but here they will only bloom later in the season. I still have to check it out what cacti I have this year because I grow them outdoors and with all the unsual rain we had for too long, I lost a few. All my garden of succulents needs a revamp. Maybe, I will take all plants out and plant them back. Some have perished, others have overgrown. A mess, especially because they are under the magnolia tree which is is in full bloom at the moment. Its flowers last only a day and they have been shedding petals for a couple weeks already. Have a lovely day, Robi, to start the week 💖💖💖

Thank you Sharon. Yes, I think it would do wonderfully for you. We can adapt watering as we please and monitor the roots. For me, it works a treat and although I have heard some people say it is hard work, I don't feel it that way. In the end, there are so many ways of growing epiphytes that we can always adapt to what makes us and the plants more comfortable. Happy rest of your weekend 💖💖💖

Hi dear Zaleha, Hope you are doing fine!!!! No, it is not fungus, it is mechanical damage induced by light stress. What happened is that, at one time, 2 years ago, I let these orchids in the sun through the window, for too long at noon. They did not get burnt but the light was too intense for the 3 new leaves that were just starting. In view of the intense light, the orchids stressed out, they were pushing foward but they could not come out at the right speed, they got held and sort of grew inside the stem but could not come out the way they should, that is why they look like that. I just got my breakfast and I am getting ready for my morning walk. Very cold here, though, 6 degrees Celsius at the moment, yikes 🥶 But it is sunny 🌞🌞🌞 Thank you for commenting, my friend. Hi Trish, I can see that you are having a speedy recovering which is wonderful. Soon you will be as good as new. These Phlaenopsis ooze so much charm, difficult to resist them. Still, I am not buying anymore complex hybrids unless something very special comes my way. The space for them is getting too crouded which means more work and mess up. I have to avoid that, too stressful as I am getting older. However, the good news is that I still have space in my lounge where I grow species and novelty Phals. I am foccusing on them at the moment. Hi Sheila, hope you had a great weekend ❤️ I was not familiar with Amino Acids as a supplement for orchids either, until I got very interesting information from a botanist, last summer. So, I have been using the stuff for less than 6 months now, too short a period yet to see results but from what I heard it is a good thing to use, with many benefits. I still think that suitable light and water are the basis but I think this stuff may be of great help. I got a bottle of it from my local horticultural shop, not specifically for orchids but the differance to terrestrials is in the dosage. Have a great coming week ❤️❤️❤️
