In this video we are taking a look at all my all spaces where my orchids are growing at the moment, before some of them will have to take shelter indoors. Presently we are having cloudy skies and some rain. I am not happy that the humidity is too high for some of the orchids I have in my collection. However, temperatures are still warm enough and so I expect to bring the warm growers indoors only by mid November.

Neste vídeo vamos dar uma vista de olhos a todos os meus espaços onde as minhas orquídeas vivem neste momento, antes que algumas delas tenham de se abrigar dentro de casa. Atualmente temos céu nublado e alguma chuva. Não estou feliz com os altos indices de humidade pois são demais para algumas das orquídeas que tenho na minha coleção. No entanto, as temperaturas ainda são suficientemente elevadas e por isso espero que possam continuar no exterior até meados de novembro.

Como disse o outro, quanto mais sei, mais sei que nada sei 😂 E é bem verdade, orquideas são tão diferentes das plantas terrestres e requerem cuidados tão diferentes mas mesmo assim nem sempre se acerta pois elas parecem ter personalidades próprias. Hi Joe, thank you so much for commenting, much appreciated. Yes, 100% sounds crazy but you will even be more surprised when I tell you that last summer days were super humid, humidity always above 80% because days started cloudy with the sun shining only after 11 am and getting damp again before sunset. It was very frustating. Of course, I live near the ocean but the past two years have been exceptionally humid, although no rain during summer. I am trying to adapt by using drier medium with some orchids, namely the Cattleyas. Still, i've lost a few over the summer which had never happed to me before. Hi dear Denise, thank you so much for your lovely and kind comment. Some orchids are doing ok but in fact this has not been the best of years. I've lost a few Cattleyas because of the high humidity in my area. Even during summer we had many days when humidity stayed above 80% humidity and too much of a good thing is not good. I heard that humidity has increased a lot over all of Europe but in my area, being traditionally more humid than the rest of Portugal, is deeply felt. I am trying to adapt by using a drier medium and so I am hopeful next year will be better. Thank you so much for your friendship and support. So much appreciated 🤗 I hope you are doing well as well as your orchids, hopefully this will be a mild winter for you 😘🥰

Beautiful gardens!! Perhaps drilling small holes in the corks and threading small wires through would help to hold shape of basket until glue dries. Thank you for the tour!!!

What a dense fog. I can imagine the humidity. 5 days ago, my parents visited Nazaré, Portugal. They said the air was very misty. I wish I was healthy so I could've traveled with them....I enjoyed your orchid update. I hope all those wonderful Cymbidium spikes make it. All your Phals are looking great in the pumice setup.😊 Iris is such a beautiful German shepherd. I love seeing her and Olivia in your videos. 😊

Hi dear Anna... Yes, the humidity has been terrible all summer and it continues. Nazaré is just 1 hour away from where I live and I believe it must have been same way as here. I was amazed that the Phals did not resent the change of set up and I am so happy about it. I hope they will bloom well again next year. This part of Europe is being hit by storm after storm and I fear it's too much wind and rain for the Cymbidium but hopefully they will make it. They did not bloom much last year and so I miss those blooms. Iris is growing to be a beautiful dog but she is so different from my previous german shepherds. She is more opiniated and stuburn 😂 Of course she's just completed 15 months, she is, so to speak, a teenager and she is behaving as such. The only real problem is that she is a fussy eater, and only my husband can convince her to eat the kibble. I have tried fresh food but she is still fussy, what she eats eagerly one day, she might not want the next. All my other dogs would eat as much as I would give them 🥰😍 And so would my son and daughter, I never had such problems with them as kids 😂😂😂😂

@@FernandaNascimentoOrchids Let's hope for the best. 😊 Iris has quite the personality. I know this may be a bit of a generalization,but in my experience, I have noticed that girl shepherds tend to be more mischievous than the boys. They are smarter but more stubborn. The 2 girls we had were also finicky. Once they were spayed and became adults, they had a healthy appetite. Maybe Iris will grow out of it soon. 😊

Olá amiga Josefina, boa tarde!!! Espero que o tempo tenha melhorado por aí. Mas parece que vem aí mais chuva, eu até tremo de pensar. Tenho saudades do tempo em que setembro e outubro eram meses soalheiros. Já ando a contar os dias para a próxima primavera/verão 😂 Sim, a Iris está a ficar uma bonita cadelinha mas está muito marota. Está na idade da palermice, fez agora 15 meses, é assim uma espécie de adolescência rebelde 😄 Muito mazinha para comer, nunca vi tal coisa. Do que gosta num dia já não gosta no outro pelo que já deixei de lhe fazer petiscos. Agora tem de comer a ração mas só o meu marido consegue convence-la a comer. Uma marota. Os meus outros cães da mesma raça comiam tudo e mais que fosse e nem os meus filhos me deram ralações para comer 😂 Beijinhos e bom resto de semana 🥰😘💖

oooh! My Bletillas are starting new growths as well... I hope they stall very soon, because, if not, there will be cold burn! By Jimminey... it bloomed! 😍and your vandas... of course, always a sensation 🥳 bloom Kimmie! Bloom!! 👏🏼I am thinking of getting rid of my Zygos. Orchids with bad leaves, I have plenty of those, but I know that can happen sporadically. Zygos though, it is a very short window of opportunity when my conditions are just right for them, but they are weakening over the years. No me gusta nada! Hi dear Nina, good morning!!!! About the Zygos, in the few portuguese sites I have found, it's mentioned that in this country they can live outdoors in winter, the only problem being the leaves that tend to get spotted and drop off, leaving the psb bare. I find it amazing considering some areas along the coast can get to freezing, not to mention where it snows. What I mean is, considering last year was not cold at all, I was very surprised to see how my Zygos, not to mention other orchids, behaved in the spring and summer. I suppose there is so much humidity the orchids can live comfortable with and after a very humid winter, summer days continued in the same tune. Fog like I showed in my video is not common but 80 per cent of days had a cloudy start, the sun only having been able to shine after 11 am and getting damp again before sunset. Everyday, humidty was over 80%, very often reaching 90%. It has been a very difficult year all together, the worst since I started with orchids and I've never lost as many orchids, not even when I started. Maybe I should change the orchids I grow and go to Masdevallias and Draculas instead of Cattleyas 😥😬 I was hoping for a drier fall but nope, we are being hit by storm after storm, just like last year. If what they say, weather cycles come in sets of seven we still have a few more years before the drier falls get back 😂 I hope you are having better weather at your end and wish you a fabulous day 🥰😘🤗

Well the weather is weird everywhere in the world. Yesterday it rained so heavy we thought the stream would overflow. Very scary! But Iris is a good girl!! She’s soooo adorable too. I love you Fernanda and keep safe. What are you gonna do about the leaf tip diebacks? Oh and the colors of that Paph. Pinocchio is too cute.
