In today's episode we look at growing pluots. Pluots are a combination of plum and apricots. The tree was developed by Dave Wilson nursery. This is a multi grafted pluot tree with three pluot varieties - Splash Pluot, Emerald Drop Pluot and Geo Pride Pluot - All very delicious pluot varieties.

I absolutely love the dapple dandy variety! This past season I went a little overboard at my local farmers market and purchased way more than we could eat before they turned too soft. We dehydrated them in our food dehydrator and the taste and texture were out of this world!

We have one Pluot tree as well with four different varieties too. On the second year that’s when we have a lot of harvests. We always have to compete to birds and rats and always a problem, since the harvest was great this year it wasn’t a big deal - I guess we also have to share to them. Thanks for a great info on pluots.

Thinking about putting in a pluot; glad this popped up in my search. I have several semi dwarf fruit trees and my absolute favorite one is the burgundy plum from Dave Wilson Nursery. It is a very sweet dark red flesh ( as the name implies) with a low tart skin. I have never seen them in stores but if you have a farmers market etc. where you might locate them, do yourself a favor and try one. I agree with you, fresh tree ripened fruit is an experience that is well worth the effort.

Thank you for this. I have been watching your videos pretty much since I moved to the US. In Slovenia we had a big garden and started planning fruit trees and veggies helps me feel more like home. I have Santa Rosa and Satsuma and I love them both but I am always open to planting other varieties. My favorite fruit I grow is pineapple guava and passion fruit and both are heavy producers. My goal is to plant whatever fruit is not easily available or is too expensive for me to buy on a regular basis.

I noticed that my rootstock pluot tree (flavor king variety) looks like it’s splitting along the bottom. Up towards the middle of the tree. Pieces of tree bark are light, flaky and can be nicked off. It’s only my 2nd year with it. It is bearing fruit. I don’t want it to die! I love these trees. Any advice? What can I use to treat it?

My backyard fruit trees are massive. :D I have an avocado tree, which produces like crazy. there are like 100-200 fruits each year and some of them are so high up, that we use a fruit picker. The avocados themselves are gigantic and taste great (I am convinced that the tree is one of the largest in the world lol) I also have a huge orange tree which basically acts as a privacy fence and also produces oranges.

We have a massive Fuerte Avocado that is 100+ years old. There are so many we can’t even reach with the long picker, even on a ladder or the roof! I’ve seen only one Avocado tree taller than ours so far, and it was in another backyard in our area. They get huge when not properly managed!

I recently bought plumcot tree from Costco here in El Paso TX, it's about 42 inches tall and grew a lot of young leaves and thriving but cannot find info about this tree from the grower Everde Growers and their website says they are wholesalers only. I see that it was grafted. Do I need another plumcot tree for polination? If I buy the same tree you have from Dave Wilson Nursery will it polinate my plumcot?

Thanks! The tree was about 2 years old when we bought it and it bore some fruits the first year and many more the following year. It depends on how cold the winters are. More cold = more fruits!
