In South Africa Kwa-Zulu Natal where I grew up my Dad would pick us Makowe a Mushroom the size of a plate, it sprung up in the fields after a fresh rainfall, my Dad would pick the ones with Pinkish brown colour at the bottom this was important according to him. He then would fry it for us, it is better than Steak and something free, tasty and lovely from Mother Nature.

Great video, I like it👍. Have a question, which agar did you use? I had problems cloning this type of mushroom, very slow growth, unlike the wood-destroying ones. Have you researched the topic of liquid culture for this mushroom species? From experience, I tried potato broth and a little honey. Growth is slow, but present. I searched for information on this topic, which liquid culture recipe is suitable for this species, but there is very little information. I wish you patience and inspiration, what you are doing is very useful!💪🍄

I've tried 3 times to grow the tissue on agar plates this way. Two different stores, just in case. It doesn't work. I can't get mushrooms that are fresh enough to grow on agar. Is there another way? I notice that in this video, theres still substrate/soil on the bases of the mushrooms; are these your own home grown mushrooms? That would explain why the interior cut out sections grow on agar plates. Thank you.

The jiffy mix, that's the casing layer? Correct? Would it also work if I did a pseudo casing layer with Coco/vermiculite/gypsum mix? I've experimented in the past without a casing layer and the first flush comes out looking like weird slug blobs 🤣🤣 Still delicious but not very visually appealing. Pinning is also very sporadic. This is only the second time I'm going to be messing with a casing layer for the white button mushroom. Just trying to be frugal. To get the jiffy and hydrated lime it's gonna be like $50 .... Granted it'll last for many future runs, if I can get away with doing the pseudo casing, I'll do that.
