Why? It looked like he put that Mud Water powder in it and used a frother to mix it in. I use one of those battery powdered frothers for my Mud Water & when making my Matcha tea. The powder sits at the bottom of the cup if you don't use a frother. 🙂

NUMBER ONE TIP: Don’t give up!!! I’ve never had a single fruit so far after a year of research and a third to a half a year of trying to grow myself using multiple teks and I know the most important thing is to not let myself get down! Don’t be discouraged!

I’m a few months behind you and support you 100%. I had a quick win with a kit and then literally just fruited some white oysters after months of trying. I had one good harvest of shiitakes from a log and the second “harvest” was one lone mushroom.

@@commenthero2514 threw away about 40 bucks worth of stuff earlier this week but just harvested my first lion’s mane this morning. Every grow is its own microclimate. Nobody can tell you exactly what to do and losses are part of the game. Enjoy the process. Don’t get caught up in yield and efficiency when you are getting started. Do the easy stuff first and see how you like it. If a grow box of oysters is fun, but a couple more and see how you feel. Then work up to a pre-spawned bag and see if that is fun. Then take a look at a liquid culture with a sterilized grain bag. Don’t jump right to a low hood and spore print. First we crawl, then we walk, etc.
@naftalibendavid
@naftalibendavid 3 жыл бұрын
@@commenthero2514 you’re doing the right thing. See which mushrooms are appropriate for the temperature in your most convenient space. (I love pink oyster but it’s still too cold here so I have to wait. If you’re in the desert, you might not want to try certain species yet.) Don’t have your heart set on 30 tubs of penis envy in 9 weeks. Give yourself months of time and pay attention to your own feelings. You can’t go wrong. Think about what it would take to get a sterile space. Notice how you feel about cleaning. It’s not everyone’s path. It is rewarding and the lessons are unparalleled. But it’s challenging, too, like most meaningful tasks.

There’s not enough information about temperature requirements for different varieties. A simple table listing varieties and their special needs would help you. People probably don’t want to share their data and intellectual property. Especially if it cost them time and money to accumulate. Good luck, I hope you record the conditions and details of your successes and failures.

I started my first mushroom grow as a psychedelic mushroom kit , made an omelette with the shrooms it was a incredible experience. ( Not something I retried again, i have nothing against magic mushrooms but it was a one time experiment for me ) Jump a few years and today I'm a happy gardener wanting to add mushrooms in my grow beds . I got a DIY kit for Xmas for oyster mushrooms. I grew a bit more then A kilo worth, now I got my first homemade culture growing and another kit on it's way to me. Mushrooms are very interesting and I recommend any gardener to have have some growing. My future plan is to have some wine caps growing in mulched beds and some oysters outdoor. The more natural possible. I see a lot of mushroom grows and all the plastic( one time use bags ), gloves , antiseptic , goes against my eco-friendly life. I don't mind reusable bucket grows just not the usual one time use plastic bags... I'm really interested in seeing more outdoor grows ! Morels + wine caps+ oyster and shiitake , any other mushrooms will be bonus ! Keep on posting :)

I jumped straight to level 3🤣. My aunt gifted me dowels for innoculating logs. But I did not have any suitable place for such a log. So, I got my parents pressure cooker, bought some wheat in the grocery store and before I knew it, I had 13 succesful jars of grain spawn, each about one cup, plus four that were contaminated. And then I just followed a simple recipe for substrate, ordered autoclavable bags with micropore filters and harvested my first oyster mushrooms in early march. I am awarw I was extremely lucky that it all went smoothly. I had to quit this hobby after the initial succes cause I needed to study a lot more and didn't find the time for it. I do plan to give it another try at some point though.

I’ve got a tip. The easiest mushroom to grow is the wine cap. I know. Last spring I put in a bed 5’ X 7’. Hoped to get a few dozen shrooms. Then a few weeks later I decided I’d like a few dozen more. 2nd bed went in. In September the first bed produced about 200 mushrooms. I was overwhelmed. Gave away what I could. The 2nd bed was put in a little too late. I had to buy an industrial dehydrator because any day now I’m gonna have 2 beds producing. Just a heads up if you’re starting out.

@@eklectiktoni you might wanna try shittake. If you can get your hands on a couple of 3 and a half foot logs. You can drill them and buy mycelium plugs and push them into the logs. They’ll produce for 5 years. And there’s warm area types to grow. Check out field and forest products online. I bought a tabletop farm of shittake and they exploded with mushrooms about 2 weeks after I received it.

I tend to think that 'easy' is a very subjective term, depending on location, meaning where in the world, what climate, time of year, growing inside or outside, quality of spores, etc. Either way I am glad to hear of your success's bro, wine caps are tasty tasty. Q: Have you ever tried growing morels? If not do you have plans? I heard those are pretty tough to grow, very sensitive to everything.

@@FreshCapMushrooms Hi I’m relatively new to growing mushrooms I was wondering… is there a limit on how many grain to grain transfers you can do? And how would I create a master plate that can last for years? Would I just take a bunch of spore prints or live cultures to agar from my first batch and use that until I’m out then do the same for the next generation?I’ve heard about how your mycelium or mushrooms can age and become sluggish and how there’s a limit to how many times it can divide with out bad mutations or something like that I just want to make sure I’m doing everything correctly so later on down the road I’m not messing up please and thank you 🙇‍♂️

I bought the mushroom kit from back to the roots and had a huge yield (almost a kg) and now I’m waiting on my recycled substrate and stem-butts to finish taking over the 5 kg of used coffee grounds that I’ve split into 6 bags that are currently in a warm corner in my room turning white with mycelium. A proof of concept before I scale up to where I can sell the oyster rainbow to a couple of my favorite restaurants. I doubt I’ll ever get to where I can reliably harvest spores, but I already have a pressure cooker and whole grains for grain spawn. I don’t have enough containers (yet) to grow enough mushrooms to sell, but that’s coming soon enough.

Last month I finally picked up a blue oyster kit at a farmers market. I just harvested yesterday my first fruitings! And now, I have watched about a hundred videos in the meantime, and I am making notes about the overall process, breaking it down into what I need to get, how much it will cost. I got the cosmic queen block from Cascadia Mushroom and finally got a single mushroom after nearly 2 months of trying (guide says it's supposed to start pinning in 14-21 days). I live in a dry and hot environment, I thought it was cool enough in our spring (it was not) and the instructions they gave were to put a plastic bag over it and spray twice a day; I found it dried out too fast even with the regular misting. I made a SGFC and a hygrometer and moved it to the room with the swamp cooler and got it to finally fruit. Going to try a better variety for the temperature and maybe move the rest of the block to the garden and maybe it will fruit later if not it will act as compost. I told myself I would move on from mushrooms if it didn't fruit so now I can't give up even though I just got one haha Anyways, I'm enjoying this channel and hope to learn more.

I'm partway through my first grow and it's went great so far. Started from liquid culture onto rye and from there into some supplemented sawdust blocks. They're colonizing nicely and hopefully I can start fruiting them soon. Those are blue oyster mushrooms and I have a jar of lions mane spawn I'm going to be mixing with another sawdust block tomorrow. I have no idea why more people don't do this. I bought a decent pressure canner but just using a still air box at this point. I understand the desire for a laminar flow hood after messing around with a couple sawdust blocks and grain jars in that little box though. Anyways, I've learned all the steps so far from videos on this channel and I appreciate the helpful content!

Did they fruit ? What fruiting chamber did you use
@TheJoshuaFrey
@TheJoshuaFrey 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, they did. My lions mane did really well, but my oyster mushrooms were a little stunted. I’ll be honest though, my fruiting chamber left a lot to be desired. It was just a clear plastic tub that I covered with poly. I would mist it twice daily and this seemed fine for the lions mane, but didn’t quite cut it for the oysters.

@@TheJoshuaFrey ok I'm about to do my first grow pink oyster from liquid culture to popcorn then to masters mix then a sgfc. I'll be sure to mist it more and fan a little more. Thanks 👍

I also got a notebook that I dedicated to writing down all my questions and note in. I also use it to write information about the mushrooms I’m growing (I have different pages saying the conditions, substrate, ideal terms and grow times, and time since inoculation ect…)

I just started last week. My kit is exploding with mushrooms. This is so unlike gardening. I am a big fan of edible mushrooms and I can't wait to see how they taste. Are portobellos easy to grow?

Sounds great! Portabellos have a different grow cycle, I wouldn't say they are harder or easier, just different... I will do a video on it!

I am a teen and do not have a job yet(I want to get one, but we are moving across multiple states soon), so I got to use birthday and Christmas money(which is not much($45)), so I got to start with very inexpensive options Edit: I am starting with a Pleurotus ostreatus kit. Maybe I will try making a stem butt spawn as well

Community is cool, especially if you know a few people locally. You can trade cultures and other local stuff like that. With anything there is a learning curve. You also have home product hacks like the 90 second mycologist who uses microwave rice, medical tape, and a hole punch to grow mushrooms on the cheap before buying a pressure cooker or other item that $100 or over. There is a way for almost any budget or skill level to have some fresh mushrooms. Just like with every thing else in life you shouldn't throw in the towel if you have a few set backs. It's like trouble shooting, try to figure out what messed up, correct it and see what happens the next time.
