I planted my pumpkins in mid-June to July 4th here in Southern Indiana. We have pretty long growing seasons and our first frost usually does not occur until late October. We have warm and humid conditions. The male flowers started to appear on some of the plants a week ago or so. I use a fish emulsion liquid fertilizer once every week or so. They look awesome and are growing fast! Male and female buds are appearing on one of them so that's good! Hopefully I'll have pumpkins sometime in October!

@@nebulouspranks, I had seven 30 pound orange Howden pumpkins last fall! I plant them in the same spot every year by adding Miracle Grow Garden Soil to the soil each late spring and till it in with a small gas powered row tiller. They say you're not supposed to plant in the same spot year after year, but my plants produce well!

Ya I have to plant around mid June or early July. Any sooner and they are all done by July or August. If I want them By October I need to plant around July at the earliest 😊

Thank you so much this video has helped me alot. Ive got a pumpkin patch growing beside my house thanks to an old roommate not properly throwing out their Halloween ones. They rotted over the winter an spring an bloomed into a massive patch with 7 or 8 large size pumpkins growing. Ive only watered them daily i plan on hopefully using them this Halloween.

The readiness depends. I live in Northern Europe and we have pumpkin types that are yellowish orange from the start and at 20 cm diameter they sound kinda hollow, but they keep growing and growing and are only harvested just before first frost because they keep growing until then.

I have not succeeded very well with squash so far, although had some fun with trombocino! I only ususally get a couple per plant in the end. I think maybe not enough food potentially.

I grew mine on a trellis and used wire shelves to support them. I just ate one that was over a year old and still have some older . Easy to do if you don't drop and bruise them.

A high-nitrogen feed such as tomato food would be good. However, the variety of pumpkins you choose to grow will have a greater impact on the size of the fruit.

I planted my squash plants in mid May and they look small still...can I feed them tomato feed before they fruit? Or flower?

Yes a tomato feed is ideal. Give them a feed every 10 to 14 days once the first fruits start to swell.

Hi, yes it does happen. You might need to add some nitrogen to the soil. Don't add too much, as this will produce too many male flowers and not enough female ones. Temperature can also be factor that hampers the production of flowers. Fingers crossed for you.
