Spring is just about here and the nurseries are stocking up with cool growing annuals and perennials! Ranuculus asiaticus, or the persian buttercup is often sold outside of it's ideal growing area as a spring annual. Here I am discussing the care for Ranuculus along with some tips and tricks to keep the buttercups thriving outside of their preferred growing area. Ranuculus make an excellent addition to the garden as they reward for months with large exquisite buttercup flowers! How to plant ranuculus, how to grow ranuculus and how to store ranuculus tubers is all covered here.

Finally broke down and bought some corms from Dollar Tree. I have had surprisingly great luck with their other bulb and seed selection over the years. Waited two years and fought and lost all my money to move, and now I'm about to move all over again! 🤷 This time will be right down the (cobblestone!!!)street from my grandma, and I couldn't be happier about that!!

I just love these flowers! It's my first time growing them myself. I saw them outside at my local Lowe's garden center yesterday when I was purchasing mulch for my spring flowers that are starting to peek through the soil in recent weeks due to an unseasonably warm burst of air that caused temperatures to reach the low 80s, breaking all kinds of records here in Kansas City, Missouri. Yet, it's supposed to possibly snow over the weekend. I ended up grabbing 5 small containers at my local Lowe's garden center, yesterday. They all have beautiful blooms on each stem. Although, they are short-stemmed and bushy. The care card stated that they are "Mounding Annuals" here in my region. I can't seem to find anything about this particular "mounding annual". I just assumed all Ranunculus's stems grew tall, yet this one says its average height is 6-14" tall x 6-14" wide, and to grow them in 3's. Since they all have full blooms, should I deadhead them to promote growth?

Awesome video! Thanks so much. I am in zone8a and just planted some tubers in two parts of my garden. In a bed with gladioli bulbs and in a bed that has allyssum and cosmos. Both beds are full sun. Hopefully they do well. I'm treating them as annuals but will leave them in the ground over winter to see if they come back for me :)

Great video! I love ranunculus! I have read that with deadheading you can keep them blooming longer, but I have never been able to get this to work. Can you give any tips for how to care for an established ranunculus?

beautiful, but to fussy for me, I want to plant my outdoor flowers and let nature take care of them, I have enough to take care of indoors ( dogs and orchids) oh yeah you say they are toxic if eaten! nope, not for me, I have to many dumb animals and enough Vet. bills! Thank you I just enjoy your!

I like their foliage and the flower- I’m zone 7 and it doesn’t like it here... we get heat and hard showers. Delicate and fussy like a spoiled baby... but beautiful. I need hardy robust plants that aren’t terribly needy. I want to be spoiled not have to spoil...oh no! I’m ranting😉
@TropicalPlantParty
@TropicalPlantParty 6 жыл бұрын
A perfectly acceptable and understandable rant! lol, they really are fussy little babies. That is why i typically only grow them as a spring annual. Come summer time, they just die from the heat and rain. Still worth because I can have them in march, and april when the flower selection is really limited.

Bulbs Seeds and everything nice these were the ingredients used to make the perfect flowers but only one was ever made Buttercup? Yes thats a Powerpuff Girls reference but I had to make it since Buttercup’s name was based on the flower

Thank u I planted them for the first time this year and they started growing but I think I over watered them so they died. Also when they started growing I didn't take them out of the pot to replant them. I'm not sure if they died from to much water or from not enough space to grow. :( Can I start over and replant them or no?
@maryc2501

I planted some in a different spot less water and lots of Sun they are growing beautifully. Was wondering if I can replant he ones that died next to them.
@TropicalPlantParty
@TropicalPlantParty 6 жыл бұрын
i would think that would be fine to do as long you are confident they died from the watering and not a disease or pest that you would be introducing to the healthier ones. Sounds like it was just a watering issue though. I struggle with that every year!
@maryc2501
@maryc2501 6 жыл бұрын
Tropical Plant Party it's either from overwatering or I had them in a small pot as they started growing there wasn't enough room for them to grow. This is my first time I'm learning as I go and from my mistakes lol. Idk if I did the right thing or not but I put them in a bowl of water for 24 hours and will be planted. Hope I'm not damaging the bulb if so I know now for next time lol, FINGERS CROSSED lol

How to harvest the seeds for propagation? Where are located the seeds?
@TropicalPlantParty
@TropicalPlantParty 4 жыл бұрын
If you allow the flowers to die without removing them, a green ball will form and swell right behind where the flower was on the stem. Let it grow and when it turns brown and dries you can cut it off, then cut that ball open and it will have seeds inside of it. Traditionalists these are propagated by bulb divisions though, much easier that way, but takes a longer and gives fewer plants.
