I'm so happy you are doing an orchid video!! I love my 5 orchids that I've had for many many years now and I love seeing what others have and the new ones they get! Thank you Jeff!🤗🌸🏵🌸🏵

My Mom has orchids...over 20 of them! She fell ill, (brain aneurysm) when COVID started. I went to stay with my Mom & Dad for 3 months to help them out, drive to all appts, make foods to help her to recover. I took detailed notes on her care of her orchids, like a kid in school before the math exam.....Hahahahahaha! I managed to keep every orchid alive & I added to her collection! Whew! Have an awesome day!!! ✌🏻

Thank you Jeff, be safe, stay healthy and we’ll see you next time. I have family coming in this weekend from Va. son-in-law is going to repair our leaking roof 👏🏻 Hubby is MUCH too old to be up there considering he has a hard time standing up without tipping over. 🥺🌺💚🙃

Yes, yes, yes....I love orchids too....I filled my small sun room with over 40 different colors and kinds...and...enjoyed my tropical treat area...surrounded by so much beauty....until....I too got mealy bugs.they were a contstant battle. Having so many plants touching each other it was impossible to get rid of the bugs..even when quarantined cleaned weekly...put in plastic bag.....so one at a time they got tossed...so sad.... I have 2 now.... thanks for the video Jeff❤

Such a shame! When the mealies get on them, it's hard to get them off without completely dismantling the roots and everything.

How do you pot these up? So often I see every person make their own mix but like what's all in it? Do you keep these in a cabinet indoors for humidity or do they adjust to the household? I avoid a aroids to be honest because it just seems people spend so much time on pest contol and it being a constant battle. Is it just me or is there a lot of pest heartbreak in aroid ownership. Honestly I'd like to see how you display these.
@TropicalPlantPartyСағат бұрын
With everything in this video, I just keep them indoors or in my growspace during winter and treat them like I do most houseplants. Filtered but bright sunlight, water about once a week(species depending) and I pot then up in general orchid bark. I may add some noot aroid blend to their orchid bark and sphagnum moss when I do repot these.

I had a catastrophic orchid event too. Last summer. I always put them on my screened porch for the summer. But one day I was cleaning the porch or something. I put the orchids outside on the deck. They got too much sun and they all died. Most of mine were rescues from the clearance rack so I did not cry too much.
@TropicalPlantPartyСағат бұрын
Oh no! They really do fry quickly. Not like a lot of plants that will brown up/bleach out but then flush back out and be ok, nope, orchids just fry and die. I had a similar thing happen with my first orchid collection. A construction crew was refinishing the patio and they moved my orchids(that weren't even on the patio) to my driveway in the full aun. It was July and like 102F outside, they were brown and black by the time I got home.

My dad marveled at how I was able to get his Orange flower Bird to get 20 feet tall from a non-rooted cutting in Southern California.. My strategy is to let the plant focus on the main stalk and prune the outer. You'll get it to bloom much easier by not allowing it to compete with itself.

Nitpicky taxonomist here-----Huernia is a genus, not a family. The family that the genera Stapelia, Huernia, and Hoya belong to is Asclepiadaceae, and it's pronounced hwernia------think of Stewie Griffin! But it is a super cool plant

I am so sorry that this happened. I want to thank you for taking us on tour as you navigated the flood. Your ability to to stay cool and look for a solution is a gift. A good lesson for anyone who watches your video. The car ride was a nice break through the winding road and always love shopping with you and planting. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and coolness.… I believe the contactors knew that water was going to move in your direction, thus the rock hedge by the fence. But it was a lot of rain. I love your comment “ Champagne problems “ “Keep growing “ Thank You again Oh!!! I love evergreens, my mom always told me you need winter interest in a garden. After watching I went to Lowes and bought an Emerald Green to place by the sidewalk.

Hi Jeff, congrats on your new beauties. I have a question please, I've been ordering lots of starter (house plants) recently. Everything I hear suggests leaving the plants in the pots they shipped in for as long as possible. These starters are in small pots which are driving me crazy having to water so often. My question is what is the minimum amount of time one can leave starters (with roots) before repotting into more permanent pots? Thanks for your help. I loved it when Turbo brought his toy to you and politely placed it at the base of the plant. He waited patiently, then wandered off. Of course he left his toy in case you decided you wanted to play with it. Bless his precious heart. 💖

Oh, man, what a mess. This happens occasionally to my next-door neighbor's pool if we have a significant rain. He just runs the pump and shocks and repeats it for days.
@wesleyhackney3 күн бұрын
That was a real mess and a lot of strain on your system but looks like you handled it well. You have an impressive pool filtration system. My wife & I operated our own pool cleaning, service & repair for 10 years. Hope you can get the source & problem with stuff overflowing into your pool cause that could be a real pain
@katy22223 күн бұрын
Yikes!! Jeff, I wonder if your back neighbors have drainage in their back deck since everything is seeping into your yard. If worst comes to worst, see if you can put in a French drain. I know you mentioned that there was a drain in that area, but it looks like you might have to widen it so it can take in more water. I recently had to get a French drain installed in my side yard because my neighbor’s lot is higher than mine and my side yard flooded. I hope you can get everything figured out and that it doesn’t get too costly since French drains can be extremely expensive.

Those dichondra baskets were only $19.98? Wow! I would have guessed they were $29.98. Do the siding clips you were talking about get permanently mounted or do they just clip on? I have a condo and can't drill into the siding, but if they just clip on, I would love to mount some trellises for my climbers. This year I have hyacinth vine wrapped around the wrought iron railing to my entrance steps, and it is growing about a foot a day and I think it's going to take over my entrance! I can't believe how calm you are regarding the flood. I think I would have been in tears, but you're right...Champagne problems😊

There's no way in the world I could have handled this the way you did. I would have been so upset I wouldn't be able to speak. How can this be YOUR responsibility? The Association should be responsible. You're much too kind, Jeff, much too kind. This should have been disclosed to you when you bought/built the house. I don't know if it was, but some kind of compensation was certainly in order. Not my business, but you're too kind! What a guy! xxo

Did you get the Santa Barbara from Yoshi (orchidsbythelake)? I feel like the leaves on some of the Colocasia are extremely dependent on weather. I have a Pigtail Princess that is now a nearly white leaf with a green edge. White Lava holds its color very well, Pink Ribbon goes nearly black in cool and the pink veining becomes more prominent when it gets hot.
@TropicalPlantParty3 күн бұрын
That's a good point about the colocasia, it's much more pink now. Probably just the sudden onset of cool temps that came out of nowhere. I got the Lc from Bombotany on etsy, don't think I've ordered from them before, but I like what they sent and they have a decent selection.

Great video! My pond overflow pipe got clogged in the storm, and just enough water overflowed the edge to turn the water brown. I caught it just in time before it really overflowed though, and the filtration had the water mostly cleared up in a few hours. Standing plants back up after the storm though, man that's a whole big task of its own.
@TropicalPlantParty3 күн бұрын
Something so satisfying about watching a pond clear up like that. The koi didn't mind the extra water change? I'm sure they didn't. Yeah! Especially when they're submerged or just sopping wet and extra heavy!
@Puppies-Plants-Politics3 күн бұрын
Jeez, i can't imagine any french drain, dry creek, etc., preventing that. Your pool is much lower than all your neighbors. They all drain to your lawn. Plants got good rain water, and you had a moment of free time from watering? 😊.
@TropicalPlantParty3 күн бұрын
Right!? I think the only thing for that amount of water is some terrascaping to direct water to the various drains.
@Puppies-Plants-Politics3 күн бұрын
@TropicalPlantParty well if you figure it out let me know. Corner lot/ neighborhood block drainage as well....but NOTHING as challenging as yours! Too bad in those high rain times you can't collect that good rain water!
