Thank you for providing this video. I realize that it is from quite a while ago but it has been MOST informative and I likely will refer back to it often. I have my cabbage rose cuttings and a couple of mason jars with water in them to clean them and am going to head outside my camper to prepare them as well tend some of my other repotting projects. :)

Can I propagate during winter inside my house ??? Will it grow ??
@amyqb1175 ай бұрын
@@Passionatesoul_Family4life I am trying this now and i think its possible! I simply placed my roses in water not thinking it would grow, I left for 2 weeks and came back and there was some bloom. Its not as green as in the video and its been in a dark house (with -20) outside but it definitely blooms. I just have to learn how to take care of it.
@PrisonerInGlass3 жыл бұрын
Adding an aquarium air pump and an opaque container will increase your success rate to damn near perfect. Clear containers have a higher rate of algae growth and mold. Also if it's left in the bright sun that acts like a magnifying glass heating your water up and can cause a decreased success rate potentially leading to rot.

It's not a lot of oxygen in the water. You changed water one time in a week. Change the water two times a week. You need oxygen in the water to support rooting. When you change the water you will get more oxygen in the fresh water and less rot. Actually its better to do rooting in river sand because sand will get water but also more oxygen to support rooting than in the pure water rooting case. But when rooting in the sand, you need to add more water to the jar with holes in the bottom time after time make sure that sand stays wet.

Hi Tigran would u consider making a video on rose propagation with river sand ...this is the very first of heard of it and Iv watched quite a few tutorials. Many thanks for a great suggestion.
@ku64792 жыл бұрын
That's interesting as, I've always been taught of how plants breath IN co2 and out oxygen. So you're saying theres too much "oxygen" in sitting water..well that would change the whole structure of water itself. Thousands of plants grow in ponds, but I don't see anyone changing out the pond water
@devilmecare2 жыл бұрын
This way seems to work well. Sand killed my cuttings. Never again. Everything I propagate in water roots and lives
@lacedreason Жыл бұрын
@@ku6479 hes not saying theres too much oxygen, hes saying theres not enough, there would be far more oxygen in a pond then a sitting jar of water, some people will even add an air stone from an aquarium to their cutting water to help the roots from sitting in stale water. stale water is much more likely to cause rotting of the cuttings

Most of the roses in my garden were only from "rose cuttings". There are bed roses, shrub roses and climbing roses. At first I put them in a glass with water for a few days and then planted them in a small pot. When they already have roots I transferred them to my garden, direct to the soil with sunlight and there they grew up and bloomed. Have also planted rose cuttings directly in soil during autumn, covered them with pine branches till springtime. In month of may, many leaves appear and has several buds already. At that time I removed all pine branches coverings because they need direct sunlight. In summer, the rose cuttings start to root before 1 month because of the warm weather.
