I don’t have any sarchos so I am interested to give them a try. Also, I had a mouse in the house and the little jerk chewed off a bloom spike on one of my oncidiums!! I nearly lost my mind! Thank you for this colaboration. I learnt so much. Just needed this one. Following your advice I joined the Burwood orchid society and went to a show. I bought a sarcochilis unnamed and not in bloom , the grower had no idea what it would be. It turned out pink with white speckles. However it has the most amazing fragrance, .it fills my dining room and hall way when you enter the house. I was going to buy more as I thought that they all smelled like this. Well the flower is worth it and the fragrance will be a bonus if the next one has it too. Have a great week.

What a lovely video. Fabulous array of colours. You are tempting me so much for a new greenhouse purchase! How often do you water yours, Matthew? Thanks for sharing 😊
@helloplantlovers10 ай бұрын
They'd do so well in your greenhouse Rachel! I don't really have a watering schedule; maybe every 3-4 days in summer unless its boiling hot in which case more. And about once a week in winter. Dan waters EVERY day in the warmer months and his plants look amazing.
@GardeningatDouentza10 ай бұрын
@@helloplantlovers Yes, I heard Dan's schedule and his leaves are amazing. Your watering schedule sounds more like something I could get on board with though ;-) Love all the pinks and your take-home is a dote.

It was a pleasure to watch Amazing collection. Regarding water how much would you give individual pots volume wise ? It would certainly take a while to water daily. Looking forward to part 2
@helloplantlovers10 ай бұрын
Hi there - I couldn't say volume wise per plant - I use a hose on many of mine so they get a good soaking!@@EveGriffin-ny2os

It was surprising to me that Dan waters daily in summer in the plastic pots. Your watering regime is less in terracotta which I thought required more frequent watering. It certainly differs from person to person with lots of trial & error. Thankyou for sharing

I bought my sarc. hartmannii from the ANOS show this year and its blooming was just beautiful. Very gentle and solft white floral scent. Currently growing it inside with a grow light next to a fan. I also live in Melbourne and have problems with mice/rats eating my outside plants. I found 8% eucalyptus oil spray is a very useful deterrent.
@BlackCat-fr4ue10 ай бұрын
Thanks for the advice on eucalyptus oil spray, also found by accident after soaking my Sarcs what appeared to be miniture slugs escaping from the drain holes of the pots. Both contributed to a poor flowereing year.

Thank you for this wonderful vid, such a beautiful Sarcochilus collection both you and Dan have. I took my first step into Sarcochilus world last year when I bought two plants from a local Nursery here in Geelong. After joining. the local Orchid club, I found untold wealth of information on watering them. They had been looking rather " sad " due to my lack of watering, now having increased the watering, one is doing much better and I cross my fingers for the other. I did, however come home with two more from a recent 1.our local Orchid show and 2. after our Orchid meet with guest speaker whom had some Orchids for sale and I couldn't resist. The recent arrivals are in bloom, one is Hartmannii " Good one " and the other a delicate pink with white spots is Piccaninny 'ky' x Kulnura Dazzel ' Poka Dots ' hopefully, I can keep them alive and one day have a nice collection like you and Dan.

Where do you obtain Orchiata bark in Melbourne please? I can't find a seller here.
@helloplantlovers9 ай бұрын
Dan gets his through his local orchid group - they buy it in bulk and then distribute it to members. Other wise there are many sellers of it on Ebay - just type in Orchiata bark in the search bar and you'll see all the options.
