That is so true about thinking you look raggedy growing your sides out but it doesn't look that way to other people. I'm going to have to keep that in mind whenever I'm ready to try to grow my sides out again.

This video keeps it real!! There are so many girls on here who have no life except for playing in their hair. They only show the good days. Some only Instagram their wet let length, Etc. Reality is there are more women with tight kinky hair that sticks up sometimes, doesn't look anything like the tutorial, shrinks and sucks up moisture like a cactus. Can we just be happy with what we've got?? #blackisbeautiful #loveyourself #madeinHisimage

This is just the inspiration I need to continue to grow out my sides and back under cut. I’ve cut it at least 10 times after I said I was going to grow them out... the awkward stage gets me😬... but I’m “sticking it out and embracing the process” this time FO SHO!!👍🏾

Thinking about the after is important before cutting your hair. I cut my hair in a tapered cut because I knew I was going to grow it back out and The taper would give me that shape i wanted.

I'm in the process of growing back both sides and it's annoying to say the least. I had the thought of cutting it all off but I know I would miss my go to ponytail, lol. Then I had the idea of growing one side at a time and just covering the side that was growing. Now I'm on "eff it" mode. Thank goodness for headbands and beanies, lol.

@v.kelsey59605 жыл бұрын
Wow, so validating to hear a similar process from someone else. A lot of my fellow black friends would never sacrifice length for style. And I agree that you have to mostly leave your hair alone for it to grow. But just as i always wanted to age gracefully, i also wanted to grow out my hair gracefully, haha. So, like you, I'm all about the shape. 🙂 i think few and strategically-done trims can help make it easier to adapt to your hair situation by helping make it into a fitting style. When I did the big chop last year, my hairdresser accidentally gave me shaved sides instead of a tapered fro. It took some months before I left it alone and let it grow out. It was difficult at first to not project my insecure thoughts onto others- thinking my awkward stage style looked unintentional. But like you said, you adapt to what your hair looks like at each moment and just style accordingly. And after a few months, i had finally grown out that awkward break bewteen the sides and the top of my hair so that I could taper my fro. Which means, after several months of being natural, i was starting with the style i had originally planned for. It sucked that I had to wait (after originally doing a big chop no less). But like you said- time goes by so fast; and when i decided to just rock my new style instead of worrying about it, i got a lot of compliments. Now that its been a few months since i tapered my fro, im in the midst of another Awkward stage. But i just moved to China for year, and i don't plan to let a local experiment in cutting their first black person's hair. So I'm just going to enjoy myself and think about the big fro I'll have when I return. 🙂 If you read all that, bless you, lol. And please keep making vids. 💕

I;m like you. I let my shaved sides grow back without bothering it too much. I did do a sponge curl on the side for a while but now i can 2 strand twist my side. Its amazing how natural hair can grow so fast. Also the different textures of hair on our heads. My sides and the back of my head its so soft it will curl up with just water and oil. But the crown of my head is a tighter coil and needs more work. Crazy I just love my natural hair. i will never perm my hair again. natural for 10 yrs
@padfootslover8 жыл бұрын
That's really true about time flying. I big chopped to a tapered twa to get rid of damage caused by a bad flat-iron job, and my sides and back were ungrippable. 5 months later, I've got like 2 inches of hair on my sides and back and I can now do a twist out. I didn't even really realize it until my sister pointed out that the sides of my head were looking rough, lol.

I get so many compliments on my hair. I just love it. Its amazing to me how many black girls/ladies ask me how do I get my hair the way it is. Lol Sometimes I hear people say She has a texturizer in her hair or a jerri curl. Its crazy. I tell them. You have to take a chance with your natural hair if your permed. Cut all the perm off and you will see what your real hair that god gave your looks like and the real texture of it. It might shock the hell out of you. and change your life as far as perms go.
