Thank you! One person came out and realized that coconut oil was breaking their hair out. Then all of a sudden everyone else "realized" that they too had a problem with coconut oil. I was over it. People need to think for themselves. It's the same thing with the water only washing. I knew that wasn't going last long. Pure foolishness.

I do as well. I have had no problems with coconut oil. These people do so much to their hair, I'm like how can you be sure it was the coconut oil. I get it if you tried coconut oil and it was not good for hair, because its true, everything is not for everybody. But the people who have been using it for years, and considered it a "staple product" and now its tearing out your hair? Major side eye. Plus like I said, they do too much. They do protein treatments when they don't really have knowledge of how they work, how to use them properly and half of the time they don't need them. They leave conditioner on their heads for hours at a time and even overnight. Every time you turn around they're trying some new method or a new product. Please don't get me started on the people who try a new product line, but refuse to follow the instructions on the bottle. I have seen people pile four and five different products at time on their hair trying to achieve a wash and go. But it was the coconut oil that destroyed their hair? Ok. I been natural for a little over five years. When I started people were so genuine, that's why I don't subscribe to most of these people. I've seen so many methods, challenges, products, demonstrations, you name it they've done. I honestly feel like they are running out of ideas and are grasping at straws at this point. If you notice, some of them are big chopping all over again. To the people who are new naturals there really is good information to help you with your journey, but the best thing that you can do for your hair is to find what works for you and stick with it. Don't follow trends because they fade away and if listen to some these people you will be disappointed. Keep it simple, and be patient.

These points were spot on! I often wondered how these women started out with 4z hair, then ended up with BSL length 3b hair. I believe a lot of them texturize their hair to get that "look". Your hair looks great btw. Thanks for your honesty!

OMG I noticed the coconut oil thing. Naptural85 said it first from what I remember and then eeeeeveryone copied her and started saying they don't use coconut oil. People might hate my comment but I think these "Gurus" wait for Whitney to say something and then just copy her. She used Traders Joes conditioner first and now EVERYONE swears by Trader Joe's Conditioner. I haven't tried it yet. I just don't believe these girls, even though the conditioner might be really good. You better believe if Whitney ever says she doesn't use Trader Joe's conditioner anymore within 24 hours there will be videos allllll over KZbin from other "gurus" saying they no longer use it.

I too was annoyed and irritated with people being with coconut oil 100% then all of a sudden everyone wants to say it's not good for your hair. There is one person I know who was actually genuine about it and explained how it really did make her scalp inflamed and such. Then after her video new videos every week were coming out saying coconut oil ain't all that and how it's not good for you and so on just to get views and be on this "trend". I hate that people are treating like a trend. These are people's natural hair, women are trying to embrace themselves but feel like they can't trust natural hair people or that natural hair "really isn't for them" because of the false information they be hearing. I attend an HBCU and I hear stuff like that all the time now. It's saddening. I just want to say also that coconut is a great oil. Just because it doesn't work for some people, doesn't mean it work for most. Coconut oil has very beneficial properties and is a healthy oil. Also don't claim to be allergic when you're not. It not working for you (could be the case it is also be using it wrong) doesn't mean you're allergic.

Thank you DSF! I've seen videos and pics on Pinterest where tons of naturals are able to lay their edges straight. Mean while I'm confused. My edges are so thick and curly. A whole tub of eco styler would not lay it down. My high and low pony never looks the way I see them portrayed online. The whole texturizing and relaxing of edges make more sense. If it was all the way natural, the results would not be the same. It's really disappointing when ppl are putting out false information, but I'm not surprised. Ppl nowadays are seeking validation from left to right but that's a whole other story! All in all, when the foundation is weak, the house will not stand and that is all. Thank you again #truth

This is my second time seeing this video, and your rant is still relevant. All of a sudden, rice water is the new holy grail of hair growth. As a blogger, I’ve stressed less is more. Everyone’s hair growth is at a different rate, and some people refuse to accept that fact. I never imagined that the natural hair community would transition into what it is today. It’s disappointing, it’s caused division, there’s deception as you’ve pointed out, and it’s all about chasing clout rather than having a genuine love to inform and support all black women. In time, the truth will always come to the light #honestywins

Kodama I'm subscribed to probably hundreds of channels. We can speculate all the day is long, but we don't know for certain who the main culprits are. I can think of multiple you tubers for each complaint. At the end of the day we need to watch everyone and take what's said with a grain of salt until we prove it for ourselves. The coconut oil issue didn't bother me as I used it for 1 1/2 years and my hair suddenly stopped tolerating it. It does happen because I'm proof. I had several major shedding incidents right after prepooing with it. I think that my porosity improved and I no longer needed the extra moisture it was too strong. I stopped using it on my own because of the sensitivity I developed. Yep it still works on others. It still works for me toned down in products as an ingredient. I can use a very small amount to detangle but have to wash it out immediately where I used to be able to leave it in several hours or overnight. I think they did the right thing being honest about what no longer works for them. It's the other ratchet mess that bothers me and I still want to know names. Too many repeat the same things over and over.

This is the phrase I believe KZbinr's should share with their viewers..."A watched pot never boils." Everyone's hair will grow if they take care of it. It's going to grow in its own sweet time. I hate how people edit their videos these days, and all these old school naturals that have completely changed I know KZbin is a business but some of these guys have completely forgotten who they really are. Before KZbin became a business I really enjoyed watching all their videos like I go back and compare and am like wow these guys have changed. There's too much foolishness now, also with the coconut oil thing naptural85 raved about it for years and years and then when she had issues with it all of a suddenly everybody started hating it no one is just doing them anymore every one is brainwashed and they're copy cats people need to chill!

I am in TOTAL agreement! I'm slowly becoming a natural hair rebel. Aaaaand I done went back to using hair grease, and my hair LOVES IT!!!! My hair doesn't care for coconut oil, it responds well to olive and grapeseed. Nobody ever talks about sesame oil. My hair LOVES sesame oil (I'm type 4) Thanks for the vid : )

THANK YOU! people be using relaxer to loosen their curls and then claim ( I don't know why or how my curl pattern changed). I'd always scroll down to comments to see if anyone would call them out for using chemicals and then pretending but none ever did. I first figured out my hair was curly when I relaxed at the salon between the washing and blow drying process I sat in the mirror in amazement as I saw a perfect curl on my face. After that I tried going natural and every a few months I'd relax to loosen the curl pattern because I thought it didn't come naturally, I needed the relaxer but I shouldn't put too much or comb too much while the relaxer is in. Literally when your hair is natural and you put relaxer you can see the stretch of the curl as you comb it. The more you comb the straighter it gets so if you do it just right you get to still have a curl pattern. It'll just be looser, making detangling easier and making it easier to tie up the hair or wear curly, popping wash and goes. After a while I was like, you know what , let me actually see what happens when I don't do it and I stopped. But I told people when they asked "how is your hair like" that because why lie ? that's what I don't like about these " guru's " who LIE. Yes the perception of black hair and how they view their natural hair needs to be changed but don't misinform people coz now that'll be another hurdle. Don't get me wrong it is not every natural who does that, some Africans ACTUALLY have hair that grows in this "curl pattern " that's being praised so much resulting in certain individuals actually feeling like they have to fake it. Just like there are people with great natural butts there are those with implants. Simple methods like twist outs ,bantu ,knots or braid out and banding can help with loosing ones coil or curl so really, relaxers are not needed. There's no better way to learn your hair than actually practising the methods on it to see what works for you. Don't be fooled

Been natural for over six years now and even I have noticed a HUGE change in the natural hair youtubers I watched then and now. I've seen these women grow their hair on camera from twa to tailbone length before my eyes but somewhere along the way something switched. I noticed curl pattern change, new products being tested that I'm sure would have never been used x amount of years ago simply for the ingredients alone! Everything is so commercial now. I guess content and new product is more exciting than the tried and true. People still care more for curl pattern and length than they do for embracing their differences and overall health and I think that's why we all fall victim when people we've gone to for years sell us those hopes. For those of you that keep asking who, just keep your eyes open and remember that at the end of the day know your product, how to apply it according to your porosity, and do what works best for you. Everybody always want to be told what to do. Use common sense and have fun. Your hair is growing either way, but it don't matter unless you're taking care of it properly ...

I'm older than these young ladies on KZbin talking about hair growth, curls, conditioners and how to make your hair grow faster. Back in my day, we wore Afros....what we did to make our hair grow, and get curls, was to oil our scalp and hair, massage it in, section and plat our hair (the girls) use those pink rollers..lol, tie a scarf on our heads at night and go to bed. In the morning, pick our hair out and style how we wanted it to look. Use hot oil treatments once a week and wash our hair every two weeks. Our hair grew, was very shiny and healthy. What is the difference between yester-year until now? Please reply..Thank You so much. Enjoyed your video. Keep it 100% .

Thanks for leaving a comment. I agree, back in the day my mama put water and hair grease on my hair and I felt like my hair grew and was healthy. I feel like the inversion method part is person specific, but either way coming up slow is necessary because I know because I literally study this in school, if you come up too fast you will pass out , or feel dizzy , because blood would leave your brain too fast due to gravity. Same thing if you stand up too fast. Some ppl people probably don't know why you should come up slowly .

People are jumping on these bandwagons with no research behind it. Coconut oil, according to research, is beneficial for prepooing, which prevents hygral fatigue. It is not meant to be used as a sealent, everyday oil. Stop looking at these KZbinrs and look at the science behind it! Science is objective and does not lie. New subscriber here, thank you for sharing.

I totally agree about the sponsored videos. People run out and buy products based on a youtuber's review when the review was totally for a check. The Glamtwinz come on youtube reviewing hair products giving glorious reviews as if they continuously use these products. The one that got me was the Pantene Gold Series review that they did. Everything in the line was so great. They know damn well that they don't use Pantene products on the regular.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!!! I always thought that some of it was really untrue but I didn't have any proof. What I have learned is that the way your hair grows and response is mostly genetic. So you're right when you say there are some people whose hair grows fast but there's nowhere you that your hair grows one or two feet and 6 months!!! So again Thank you for your honesty. I have Lupus and my hair grows and falls out all the time. Well with the inversion method, it's about the increase of blood flow to the scalp. It's kind of like a shock to the body, but your body will get use to it if you do it too often, plus it's dangerous. The bit about coming up slow is because if you whip up to fast you can pass out or get super dizzy or have a ridiculous headache. But you are right you can't do it every day all year and expect 52"

Thanks for keeping it real!! I big chopped for the first time in 2003. Wasn't no KZbin Gurus in sight! Lol...Their was an Internet forum called Nappturality.com. And you're right it was a true forum with sisters legitimately trying to embrace truly natural hair. The type of hair not fully embraced by Black Culture let alone the rest of society. But in this forum you found a true Sisterhood bonding and support throughout the journey. And it was all about maintaining healthy natural hair the focus wasn't on the length or the curl pattern. I really miss that authenticity.
