After being told many times that grocery store vegetables will not produce offspring because it has been irradiated or is gmo to not produce anything but leaves, I saved and planted seeds from a spaghetti squash to see what would happen. Man was THAT a mistake! I had so many spaghetti squash, it made me SICK! No longer a fan of spaghetti squash!

thanQ again for these amazing videos 2 questions what time of the year should we start planting? and what is drain initials(not sure about spelling)?!! 2:06 sorry my english is not so good and I didn't get that word correct!

+Arash snap You're welcome :) Planting really depends on where you live. You can start these indoors and as soon as the last frost passes, you can transplant them outside. In northern america,You can start them indoors near the end of April and near the end of May is a good time to transplant it outdoors.

+DIY Home and Garden And I think I was mumbling, I apologize. The word I said was drainage holes. Make sure any container you using to grow plants in has a lot of holes at the bottom so water does not sit in it. If water is retained in the container, the plant will rot.

how long does it takes for tomato to produce fruits?
@KickBull5 жыл бұрын
It mainly depends on if your tomato plants are Determinate or Indeterminate, it says it on the package of seeds that you can buy, but you can't know which one it is if you got the seeds from a tomato from your grocery store. But anyway, if determinate, the plant will spend its whole life on a whole big batch of tomatoes and they will pretty much all ripen at the same time at the end of the growing season. If indeterminate, it will continue putting out flowers and fruits steadily over the whole growing season and grow as a very big plant(i prefer those lol). But back to your question, generally, after it has sprouted out of the soil, depending on how much light the plant is getting it could give out flowers even in just two weeks and that takes no longer than 2 months to develop(in the summer). THIS IS FOR indeterminate cherry tomatoes, from experience. Big tomatoes obviously take a lot longer but I don't have experience with those. *_Results may vary_*

I used regular gardening soil. You can add compost to enrich it also. Hope this helps.

The seeds take a whole year to gain 80% germination rate if taken from fresh fruit (they have a maturation period of like 10 months). They might germinate even when taken from a fresh tomato but the chances are like 1/100. Also the stores usually sell Hybrid tomatoes which are sterile and won't germinate. I got fooled alot by these kinda guys too, they just show they are doing it From fruit but end up sowing store bought seeds and make it appear that they grew from fresh fruit. As a person who is growing plenty of tomatoes from a long time, to grow tomato with minimum effort buy heirloom/non-hybrid seed from store(they are only like $1) and grow them with like 90% germination rate and then store there seeds for next season and grow them (remember the maturation period).
