Extra note: planting potatoes consecutively means you increase the chance of blight. Always remove all the potatoes and plant material when harvesting and preferably let the soil recover for 3 years (you can plant something else though!).

But, the hemp industry is booming in Tennessee, my father grows it and he was the president of the TNHIA (Tennessee Hemp Industrial Association) and was asked by the Vice President of the NHIA (National Hemp Industrial Association) to go for president of that. He denied, he doesn’t want to be that important. I'm originally from a very large farm, in Alberta, Canada. I love gardening. I got some heirloom tomatoes from a Safeway grocery store. They were really good. I kept some of the seeds, and remembered I kept them. When I planted them, the tomato plants grew very big and very tall, and they bore a lot of tasty fruit. There is nothing like home grown tomatoes.

Pro tip if anyone feels uncomfortable trying out gardening for the first time in their own yard, look around in your local area for local gardens at parks and stuff, many times there will be community events for park restoration/cleanup or planting at a garden and the people there are usually very happy to see newcomers and teach them the ropes, plus a lot of times they will have more plant than they needed and will give them to volunteers rather than discard them. I've gotten lavender plants as well as a service berry tree sapling by volunteering like that in the gardens in my area lmao. Plus it's fun, you'll meet new people, and you're doing a good deed for your community

Thanks for the great video! It's fun to see you create a video on another of my favorite hobbies. I wanted to talk about why organic fertilizers are better to use in a home garden setting compared to inorganic fertilizers. Take nitrogen for example: typically 10-10-10 type fertilizers contain most of their nitrogen in a "soluble" form. The fertilizer you used contains all of its nitrogen in a soluble form, which can be immediately taken up by plants, but also is very prone to run-off and leaching through the soil layers into the groundwater. This works okay in large scale conventional agriculture, where farmers want a lot of readily available nitrogen for fast growing plants that are heavy feeders (think corn). However, it also leads to the problem of excess nitrates ending up in lakes and aquifers. It can be a problem in the home garden by providing too much nitrogen at the time of application, and not enough nitrogen later in the season, when much of the nitrogen has been used up, washed away, or leached through to the groundwater. I prefer organic fertilizers because usually most of their nitrogen is locked up in an insoluble form, which resists run-off and leaching. These materials must be broken down by soil organisms like bacteria to release the nitrogen into a soluble form, which happens slowly throughout the season. In this way, organic fertilizers feed the soil bacteria first, which then release the nutrients and feed the plants. This slow release prevents a lot of nitrogen from being washed away and wasted by spring rains, as well preventing bombarding small plants in cool spring soil that don't need much nitrogen anyway. Another benefit to organic fertilizers is they are often made of byproducts from the meat industry (bloodmeal, bonemeal, feathermeal, etc.). Inorganic fertilizers are often made from directly burning fossil fuels, like in the case of nitrogen, which is captured from the air and "fixed" by burning natural gas. I love that you featured State Extension offices, as they great resources and underused. However, I think their recommendations tend to be oriented toward conventional farming (corn and soybeans) and also toward an old fashioned approach of dumping lots of chemical fertilizer on the garden. Often, they err on the side of simplicity in their recommendations, and telling people to grab a bag of 10-10-10 is easier than saying to grab a few types of organic fertilizers tailored to their specific nutrient needs. Lastly, I wanted to plug the best form of fertilization for the home garden, which is adding tons of organic matter in the form of compost every year. Compost breaks down slowly and releases macronutrients and micronutrients over time. This slow feeding encourages a healthy soil food web that can benefit plant growth through symbiotic mycorrhizal connections.. A higher organic matter percentage also comes with a host of other benefits, including water buffering capacity for drought resistance. Anyway, there's my long-winded comment. I tend to nerd out about gardening and agriculture. Also, sorry if I jumped ahead and you're going to cover fertilizing more in future videos in the series.

I grow my tomatoes on the edge of the mountains and season my dirt with nitrogen and phosphorus before adding my premium tomato seeds, then I water the tomatoes with demi glace this is a very important step. After they are 10 cm I use meat juice which is a little less expensive but it still brings out the meaty taste the tomatoes have. After I collect the tomatoes I season them so that they taste better and right after that I cut up my meat and roast the tomatoes with the meat.

Awesome info! Funny enough, after my mom retired from working in a hospital laboratory she part-time jobs working for the Red Cross and at the local county extension office. She always loved gardening and even went through a locally given gardening course put on by Fred Wiche and was a certified green thumb gardener. Fred was local to the Louisville area of Kentucky and is/was an absolute legend in gardening and farming in Kentucky. It certainly rubbed off on my mom. The woman could grow a dead stick LOL! I repeatedly watched her raise entire crops of African violets which are notoriously hard to keep in a good state and she rescued many that people thought were dead. Mom grew amazing tomatoes and a bunch of other things too. We had giant green apple trees that produced so much fruit the branches hung down to the ground and we have away buckets to the entire neighborhood and we'd get apple pies or muffins or bread in return. Also we lived in city limits so that made it more incredible. Just thought I'd share. Oh and also, you can rent a garden tiller in most places at a local equipment rental company. They're someone's the same people that fix small engines like lawn mowers or at least those people can tell you where to go or even now with apps like Nextdoor, OfferUp and Facebook, you can probably find someone close by that might have I've you can borrow or rent because you use it once it's twice a year and the rest is the time it's just sitting in the shed.
