Hey James. You're seeds are so fresh. The ones I've bought elsewhere in the past have taken about 4-6 weeks to pop. Think they must have been harvested pre gulf war era...interesting to see yours pop even when put in water. Thanks for the info man. Take it easy.

I have three reasonably large windmill palms and twenty smaller palms I grew from seed. I'm in zone 7a of N. Georgia. Some areas of Toronto and British Columbia are zone 7 and even 8. Mine seems to be growing faster than average. I have a swale at the edge of one and it has really taken off. These are very popular in GA around swimming pool areas because many people love the tropical look.

For the water germination method, does the temperature matter while it's soaking? Indoor temps vs leaving the cup outdoors to soak?

Hi James palms just so you know that I have a son who live's in Fort Saskatchewan Alberta Canada at Latitude 53 degrees North and his Trachycarpus Fortunei did survive our Winter {With Winter Protection of course} and we did have a couple of days with a wind chill -53 Degrees C back in January and so far so good, and the only heat it got was from decaying leaves and that's it true story. So I don't know how cold it get's where you live in Ontario but it might be close to our Temps in the winter time correct? Thank's.
@TheJames29294 жыл бұрын
Paul C No I wouldn’t think so the cold this we can get here is -20 Celsius that’s absolutely the worst case scenario he takes a polar vortex we’ve never had -30 here at my house one time and I’ve been close to -25 that’s the absolutely coldest that I’ve ever seen The average winter temperature is around -1 for a high and -6 for a low in January. On average we have 14 days a year that are under -10 Celsius at my house

@@TheJames2929 COOL I wish we were that warm, but we all live here in Alberta and we get very, very Cold, but sometimes we do get a mild period here and there, well anyways take care and bye for now, and maybe you can do a video on how a Cold Hardy Palm can survive out in a place like here in Alberta with the right Winter Protection out Side not in side, but that means only if you want to, bye for now.

Paul C thanks for sure I’ll try to make a video on the best way to keep any palm trees in the absolute coldest climate I can think of thanks for your comment. Cheers

Hey bud, I'm new to this and I came to KZbin to learn a bit about this because one of my three Trachycarpus Fortunei has the yellow clusters this spring and I was hoping I could harvest seeds from it. So I learned form this vid that I need a male at the same time, which I do not have. So my question is, can I legally get someone to sell me seeds through the mail? If so, can I buy some of yours if you still do this stuff? I'm on a gulf island in BC, Canada.
@TheJames2929 Жыл бұрын
Hey, if you can order seeds in the mail for sure banana, Joe lives on salt spring island and he will sell you seeds or palm trees or both. Whatever you would like you can look him up on Facebook or KZbin.
