When purchasing the 90° micro USB OTG with power adapter like the one recommended at the start of this video. Make sure you get a left angle one. Right angle angle ones are no good as they block the HDMI port when inserted into Nintendo mini console.

Guide was useful and very helpful. The only detail I feel was left out was what to do if you want to do the process again. For example do I need to install the kernal every time I connect? Or after that's done is it a simple job of plugging in the SNES mini and synchronizing any new games added. Also do I have to turn the system on when I plug in the USB, things like that. It showed the initial steps but not what to do if I want to add more after. Or on repeat USB plug ins. Additionally going over some of the options that hackchi has would also be nice. To tell people what each one does. Great way to close out all this info.

One thing that may be worth covering is adding additional borders, I found a really nice Trinitron border that makes the SNES/NES and even MD mini all seem a little more palatable when playing on a modern screen. Then there's obviously the Retroarch stuff for SNES/NES games that don't automatically run on Canoe but I imagine you'll cover that in the other video. (think there was also a shortcut to boot any game in Retroarch, so you don't need to edit the command line in HAkchi but it's been that long since I worked on my minis I can't remember. )

I’m still using the 2018 version of hackchi. Everything works perfectly fine. I had to buy a replacement for my Super NES Classic Edition after leaving mine behind at a former lover’s house. The process for transferring ROMs to the little games machine is fairly simple once you download enough ROMs from websites.

I say really because when I went to buy my second snes classic I got burned on Amazon and got a fake. I returned it and got a refund, but I bought another one that ended up being real. I’ve seen them on Mercari but I was afraid to pull the trigger because I’m afraid of getting burned.

You can get the same experience with a RaspberryPi, the RetroPi software and a case that looks just like the NES or SNES mini. Ebay, Amazon and many other auction sites carry Pi cases that look exactly like these mini consoles. You can have the whole thing setup in about an hour. And do not be concerned that there will be playability difference because the Nintendo Minis run the exact same emulator that RetroPi uses, so the gameplay is identical.

The TG-16 Mini is cool but it's a lot of stuff missing from it that I would like to add from the TG-16 library. So i was thinking about getting a RaspberryPi. What's your suggestions on that. Which one should I get? Which website should I get it from?

@@luciousthomas6141 Always go for the latest Pi you can. I run mine on the RaspberryPi 4B w. 8GB of memory. Right now all suppliers are having a hard time getting them, so you will have to shop around as supply changes on an almost daily basis. Adafuit, Canakit and Pishop are where I go, but again, stock is the problem right now so you may have to widen your net for one in stock.

You can make an image backup file of the original firmware first, before hacking/flashing the custom firmware! Always handy if something goes wrong or you wanna go back to the original state of the device. I highly recommend it.

I second this, also if for any reason you want to get rid of it or give it to someone, you may want to return it to defaults and having a backup is a quick way to do that.

Hackchi has a copy of the stock kernel. Click "factory reset" under kernel. It was so nice to have, because I don't know how to flash the mini!

I was having trouble installing the kernal (tried a million times all different ways), I just left it plugged in when the pop up came up saying "your device is taking too long" and eventually it recognized it and installed successfully!

i hacked mine years ago but i set my hackchi on desktop instead of taskbar (for no real reason just to change where the icon is cuz i wanted it some place different) and it COMPLETELY messed up my hackchi, now when you click on it it can't find the file path and starts up like it's brand new. is there any way to fix this? it's been this way for like almost a year and i never found a solution ...

I did everything right, the usb drive I used was the one that came with the mini. But when I plugged it back into the TV to turn it on it didn't display the folders and the games i added. Update: Got it working, I just did what you did with the folder names which was probably why it didn't work for me before.

About 6 years ago i soldered a SD microsd card reader to the board of the snes mini to extend the memory of the snes. Added all nes and snes roms. The method in this video would have been easier to do. But non the less i have a working system anyway.

i did try and fit the entire library on my snes mini a fewyears ago, but the meny became borderline unuseable, just constantly freezing for 30 seconds at a time.

You can't have all games displayed on the menu. Each menu/folder can only have a max of around 60 games. Just restructure your games list by putting them in alphabetical folders.

Hey, so this means you have too many games on the menu. I think you can have about 60-65 or so games within a menu/folder before you get this error. All you need to do is go back into hakchi and restructure your folders so you don't have any more then 60 games in each folder.

i had use the no bottom icons mod because i thought it would let me add more games per folder but i was still getting C8 error anyway, i went down to 40 items in 2 folders and still got a random C8 error when clicking into a folder. Went down to 35 items per folder and so far no C8's yet

Personally I have found the following way is the best method to avoid getting C8 errors on the SNES Mini and it also allows me to have on average between 50 to 60 items per folder and never run into a C8 error... (can't even recall the last I did see a C8 error on my SNES Mini and I have well over 2000 games added to it)... :-) First thing you need to add is the "No Thumbnails" hmod which gets rid of those tiny pointless thumbnail on the SNES Mini's main GUI for selecting and launching games. This frees up some of the limited system resources that the SNES Mini's GUI has and without it then you will most likely to run into C8 errors if you try to add more than around 35 items per folder... Second thing to note is, never have anything less than 4 items in a folder as this WILL cause C8 errors to occur quite randomly and infrequently. By "items" that means both folders and files/ games. For example if you have a folder that only has 3 games or less inside it (not including the "Back" button icon) then when you go into that folder and come back out of it things might seem ok at first but then when you into other folders with lots more games and suddenly up pops a C8 error you then think that you must have too many games in that folder and that is the cause of the C8 error, when in fact it's not the cause... Having 3 items or less in folder messes up the SNES Mini GUI system (that could be 3 games or a combination of for example two games and another sub folder etc...) but 3 items or less while it wont usually throw up a C8 error in that folder or if you come out of the folder and thinks seem to be ok, you will notice that going in and out of other folders after that you will probably have a dreaded C8 error... Simple rules really to allow you to add up to 60 games/ items per folder and not see a C8 error... Install the "NoThumbnails" hmod and never have a folder with anything less than 4 items in it (in fact try to have at least 8 to 12 items per folder just to be sure).... ;-) PS: Also remember that if you use the SNES Mini's built in save states/ Suspend Point Lists then each on of those used also affects how many items you can safely have in a folder as they too eat into the limited resources of the Mini's GUI...

Hi! This video was very clear to understand, but I have problems. When I connect my NES to the TV with the cables coming out with the console, the console turns on. But when I connect it to the PC it doesn't work, and every time I try to install the Kernel, Hakchi tells me "Nes Mini not found". Why does it do this?

I've been having issues kick starting the Kernel. I start the Kernel Click Install click OK to begin and when ask to follow the steps to connect the SNES to the laptop I follow the steps instructed. But I'm not sure once I'm holding the RESET button and plug in the cable if the SNEW light suppose to be On or OFF? cause on my system the light is off when plugged in. Second I continue to hold the reset button until I see any blinking lights but nothing happens for over 10 mins. Am missing something? I'm using the original cable so it should have the data line and I tried different cable as still nothing.

Thanks for your vid’s. You’ve helped me get hundreds of hours of fun from my snes mini. I’ve been able to get more than 3800 games working it. One big quirk I ran into was achieving a folder structure that would work. I wanted the Home Screen to folders holding each system (nes, genesis, ect) but when I export to my usb drive, it would be missing folders. After much trial and error I ended up with a wacky but functional folder tree. The Home Screen has 1 folder labeled games. Clicking that leads to a screen with 2 folders labeled Nintendo And others. Clicking on the Nintendo folder leads to a screen with all Nintendo consoles which leads to alphabetical folders which lead to the individual games. That’s 5 clicks to get to a game, but it works so I’m going with it. Anybody else have this issue? Thanks again

Two questions: The adapter is USB-C to what? And at 8:05 you say ”If you already have the games” and go down that route, but where do you find a list of the games it’s possible to add if you don’t have any? Thanks.

If you are talking about the adapter at 1:42, it is not USB-C. It is an adapter that has regular USB on one side and BOTH MicroUSB in and MicroUSB out. The reason for this is so that you can have both a USB drive plugged in as well as the regular cord as it is also the way the console is getting power. They are called a "OTG Adapter". As far as the games go, you have 2 options: 1. There is hardware that you can buy to dump the software from your personal cartridges onto your computer as roms. In most countries this is legal as the laws have exceptions for "backup and archival" or in some for "format shifting". This is the ONLY LEGAL way to acquire these files in those countries and and in most others, they are illegal period. There are a few that have no IP laws. This is rare. 2. Steal them. This is illegal. Nobody here is going be stupid enough to point you to them in a YT comment as that is also illegal. That said, they are not hard to find if you look as roms are very common.

when using a USB drive as you did, can you take a save from a gbc pokemon game I currently use on emulator and transfer it onto the SNES classic, + vice versa. I would love to play classic pokemon games on the SNES classic because of the great d-pad the SNES uses, but then transfer that onto my emulator so I can use that for my Pokemon Stadium playthrough.

Hi, I'm having trouble adding new NES games to the NES Mini. When I added the game "Panic Dizzy NES" to hakchi2-ce-3.9.3 - the following message appeared: "Uses mapper #71 but this mapper is not supported by the NES Mini and the game will probably not start with the default emulatior. (. ..)". Then I noticed that the game freezes during the rogriffin. How to fix this problem?
