How To Hammer The Ball In Tennis - Tennis Power Lesson.
This may well be the most important tennis lesson you'll ever watch. Reaching a good power position on every stroke is the key to hitting with more power, spin and control.
Almost every ball we will face will have some force on it, that could be power, spin or a combination of both. This force is what makes us hit weak shots back or worse yet hit an unforced or forced error.
To counter that force we need to have our own force in the racket and in our body. That force is called leverage.
By creating leverage in the preparation phase of the stroke we are building that force so we can hit the best possible shot in every different scenario.
It doesn't guarantee we will hit a great shot but it gives us the best chance possible.
In this video Top Tennis Training coach Simon Konov will examine the common traits that we see the best tennis players in the world doing on every stroke including the tennis forehand, the tennis double handed backhand, the tennis single handed backhand, the tennis backhand slice, the forehand tennis volley, the backhand tennis volley, the tennis overhead smash and the tennis serve.

Please could you do a video on where to hit the ball height wise. And a video on hitting looping high balls that go deep. And when you’re running in for a dropshot on the forehand or back hand side how to run in, using your wrist not a swing get the good angle cross court. Thanks

Great video! In your coaching experience, how much does physique come into play when it comes to power potential? One of my long term goals is to eventually hit close to average ATP power levels (>70mph forehands, >65mph backhands). Do you think this is possible with my physique (I'm 5'6") or do you think I can only realistically be a counterpuncher?
@TopTennisTrainingOfficial
@TopTennisTrainingOfficial 6 жыл бұрын
Physique plays a part but more importantly how explosive are you should be the main factor. Djokovic is not massive but at his best he was generating enormous power on both his forehand and backhand with good technique and a very explosive build. The physical training you do should be based on helping you reach your goals on court, not just a typical "gym" workout. All the best Simon

I've been told that I have a decent rally ball (avg ~50-55mph according to Playsight data) but I tend to stay too long in a neutral rallying position until my opponents' take control. My opponents tell me when they hit a weak ball, I need to step up the power and take control of the point. But I am struggling to do this. Is the technique for killing the ball different? I've watched your video on killing short balls but it was mostly about the footwork rather than increasing racquet head speed.

How tight should you grip the racket?
@LeJuste12
@LeJuste12 6 жыл бұрын
andrew1991robinson just enough so that you don't drop it when you go through your motion and hit , think more about holding it than gripping it
@TopTennisTrainingOfficial
@TopTennisTrainingOfficial 6 жыл бұрын
It differs on every shot and strike. Sometimes you need to grip it tighter, for example on a power ball when hitting a volley, sometimes you need "soft" hands when hitting a drop shot etc. The looser you can hold it the better in general as that relaxation will aide the muscles to work at their full potential. A tight hand indicates tight muscles.
@andrew1991robinson
@andrew1991robinson 6 жыл бұрын
Ok, so for a groundstroke would it be a lose grip and firmer for a volley? Thanks
@TopTennisTrainingOfficial
@TopTennisTrainingOfficial 6 жыл бұрын
It's not that simple. Sometimes on a groundstroke you'll need to hold it firmer as the strike might require more stability etc. As I said above, it differs on every shot and strike. Adaptation and improvisation is the name of the game. Good luck in your discovery All the best Simon
