I’ve wanted a pair of these forever but didn’t want pay the money & never found exact colors I wanted. Now I know why they are so expensive but….. I do sew a lot so now this is going to be a new project for me this winter in Colorado. Thanks so much for taking the time to do step by step. I CANT wait to try my hand at making my own custom slippers for myself!!!

So understandable. I also see items I like and then decide to make it in my favourite colour.😄If you have any questions when you are ready to make them, please let me know! And I would love to hear how they turn out..

Brilliant how you are SO mindful & create SO LITTLE waste from the leather,❣️👍♥️🌟🏆💎 Wish other people would be as mindful, no matter WHAT material they use🙏💖

Awe thank you :) ... the way you put it is perfect. No matter what they decide to use, its important to be mindful...as we are in a time of transition so living in both worlds is okay! I hope others will begin to consider where the materials come from but not be compelled in any extreme direction.

I have watched the previous videos where you made the slippers and I really appreciate the detail and I like the way you have sped things up a bit to save some time. I have watched a number of felting videos and yours are the best. I also like the idea of using the washing machine. Thank you.

Oh so encouraging to hear! I didn’t have a washing machine for the longest time! Now that I moved, I highly recommend using a washing machine for projects like this. It’s the most exhausting part of felt slipper making, so if there is a way to skip it…plus for durability. Thank you for the kind comments.

Nice video. Thanks 😊 side thought.. I don't know if anyone else has suggested this.. but what about making a template out of something hard with the holes (like a hard plastic) .. then you don't need to measure. You put it on top of the sole material and punch the material through the template. Just a thought 😁
@muffsmerino
@muffsmerino Жыл бұрын
Like something that punches all the holes at the same time? What you are describing sounds like a great idea. I am so over making soles though haha and I am more focused on just felting :) @JoestoesUk might know more about this and I hope I can purchase my slipper soles for my slipper workshops from her at some point.

Thanks so much for filming these slipper videos! I've really enjoyed them and am so excited to have a go myself. I've been felting for about a year, but only small projects, slippers just seemed so intimidating haha. I now feel super motivated to have a go. You're videos are very informative! Thanks :)

Thank you for the lovely comment. I am so happy to hear about your slipper making enthusiasm! The first time was very very intimidating. I was using a very vague baby slipper felting tutorial with photos written in Russian. This is how I learned. Then I created my own version in time. I Invited a friend over to make them together. We had tea and just didn’t take it seriously. 10 years later and many felted slippers here we are 😂

Have you ever thought about making felt from your cat's fur?
@muffsmerino
@muffsmerino Ай бұрын
Of course all the time! It’s a very rustic look and the hairs stick out of the wool because they don’t actually felt that well. I feel like it’s the last on my priority list though video wise - however I do want to do a video on all kinds of different types of fibres. So will add it to that video :) It’s a nice keepsake and I have a piece of my kitties fur felted into a little tassel. There is a Newfoundland dog that has fur that felts apparently!

Are soles needed if you just wear them inside? Do the slippers wear holes without them?
@muffsmerino
@muffsmerino 2 ай бұрын
Yes! They definitely do. You will see the wear on them so at that point you could put soles on them. They wear more quickly on rugs. They also wear in the toes. I have a very strong production made pair and the holes in toe dig into them after 6 months. To make them last longer define could reinforce the toe. It was recommended to me to needle felt panty hose fabric into the toe area. I think that’s a great idea and should definitely help. Could always add an insole as well to help the heel area from pilling. It’s just the nature of wool felt… could always try adding other fibre roving types to raw wool like silk during the layout process. Or, could add fabric sheet inside the felt at the toe during the layout process. All kinds of ideas!

All the information is really beneficial, thank you for that. The only thing is very disturbing is the way you sped up this video with the sound. Really hard to watch. It would be so much nicer to listen to your original voice and explanation. That's only my opinion, and please keep doing your videos for us, but without speeding up everything. Thank you very much! 🥰

Could you not cover the yoga mat material with a rubber coating? (to essentially seal the yoga mat?) I've purchase some 'plastic dip' liquid rubber and some rubber crumb that I will dip into it/cover it with...but I may use my own yoga type matting material and coat it with the plastic dip (as it dries well and should also seal threads used for stitching soles onto) Anyway...thought I would share
@muffsmerino
@muffsmerino 11 ай бұрын
Such a great idea. I considered dipping the felt into the rubber but never the yoga mat material. Thank you for sharing. This would definitely make the sole last longer. So you would dip it after sewn…? That would be quite strong especially to seal the threads. Great idea.

What about using the meat tenderizer to final felt your wool?
@muffsmerino
@muffsmerino Жыл бұрын
Love your channel name! I haven’t watched this video for a long while so I don’t really re all which part you’re referring to, but I have seen a mallet used to shape the slipper onto the shoe last. I use an ink roller, works great for shaping the damp felt on the last. The textured part of the meat tenderiser could be used to matte the wool, however I seem to stick to my hand only method for most of the felting, fulling :) I’ve seen the tool by strongfelt but have not yet tried it. Your spinning videos look interesting. Will have to take a look!
@abittwisted
@abittwisted Жыл бұрын
@@muffsmerino I was just thinking that the textured part of the meat mallet would work similar to the bubble wrap by helping the fibers move and felt. It was just a thought. I was wondering how people did this before the advent of bubble wrap. My spinning has been a 5 year deep dive into flax/linen and my goal is to grow my own shirt. Im currently processing the flax I grew this year. Im hoping I can get a large piece of fabric soon. Soon is always a bit away and I don't do the spinning and weaving full time. I work at a hospital full time. I will however be retiring soon so I will have a bit more time to devote to this project. I want quality so I have mastered the spinning. I only natural fibers. Im working on a wool project but I will have plenty to try to felt. It is Jacob fleece so I hope it felts OK. Even so it will be another level to my spinning and textile deep dive. One I look forward to mastering.
@abittwisted
@abittwisted Жыл бұрын
@@muffsmerino As for the name! Well, I guess I had to be a bit twisted to even take on this project but it also plays into the spinning or twisting of the fiber. A deliberate name that covers it all. :)
@muffsmerino
@muffsmerino Жыл бұрын
@@abittwisted Sounds so cool! I think any wool roving or fleece will felt. Some are finer then others. Before bubble wrap, I think bamboo mat like a bumpy blind type of fabric… something natural that could be rolled up! But also it can be rolled up between a woven cloth. The texture helps it felt more quickly. You can also agitate the felt with soap and water by rubbing it. There are so many ways to agitate wool to make it felt!
