Back up to our friend Bridget's this week - the uncrowned queen of all things woolly. And what a lovely job she made of some of the wool from our milk sheep.
Thank you Bridget! You're an inspiration. x

Sent here from- of all places- a roleplaying group. What a marvelous machine that is! Feels like I've lost appreciation for mechanisms like this 'cause of how much stuff we have today... thanks for reminding me to appreciate the developments a' our past and how they're still used today. ^^

This was one of the most instructive 8 minutes of my life. I recently took up drop spindle spinning, and I've been looking longingly at wheel spinning. I don't have a wheel, and they're pretty dear, but I wish I did because a friend gave me a raw fleece! Haha!

WayOutWest Blowinblog Do a search on line to find an agent for voice over narration and send him/her a link to one of your videos with you speaking. It could be an extra line of income for you guys. Your husband has a great voice too, BTW, and should look into it also.

What a wonderful skill Bridget has! It is amazing.....I would never be smart enough to keep all the yarn straight at the different points on the flax wheel! So fascinating and mesmerizing watching Mrs. Bridget spin the wool. As others have mentioned, it looks to be easy, but appearances can certainly be deceiving...still the way she spins, she make it look to be a pleasure to do. Also, as others have mentioned, your voice, Mrs. Sandra, you do have such a kind and gentle one. Thank you for this interesting and inspiring video...I'll never learn to 'spin', but both you ladies have me thinking on getting out the knitting needles and trying to get the hang of knitting, one more time! Thank You! Gretchen

I love spinning wheels. They *look* simple, but are quite complex from an engineering perspective. Lots of technology had to intersect to make the "humble" wheel. Never mind the skill of the operator. She makes it look *so* easy-- a sure sign it's not easy at all! Great vid, and a wonderful, soothing narration :) I agree with some of the other posters-- you'd do great narrating kids books!

very cool, i understand now how spinning is done and how to spin on a spining wheel it looks like your machine goes up to 3 ply yarn spining . But what i am curious about is how you can do thread or non-yarn based spining ... like those microscopic threads for sewing ... I myself would definitely not keep thickness continous

I think a rough. slubby finish was what was required here by the spinner - "Better' is a very subjective notion. I LIKE to finish my skeins by slamming them against a wall after washing, to deliberately full them - different approach but equally vaiid. I also like longer skeins so use my arm and hand like a niddy noddy (or use a niddy noddy if I have one to hand).
