How to hand wash silk:
1.) Fill a sink or basin with lukewarm water.
2.) Pour recommended amount of hand cleaning detergent (we like Tide, Woolite, and Soak) into the sink and mix.
3.) Place garment into the sink and immerse.
4.) Agitate the garment by pressing up and down on it while it is completely submerged. This gets your detergent and water solution deep into the garment fibers.
5.) Let the garment sit in the soapy water for 10 minutes.
6.) Remove garment from basin and squeeze lightly. DO NOT WRING; this can harm a delicate garment.
8.) Lay garment on a clean light colored towel and roll together.
9.) Once excess water has been removed through the towel rolling method, let the garment air dry by laying flat on a clean towel. Do not tumble dry!
10.) Steam any wrinkles once garment is done drying.

I generally just use the cheap mild shampoo and cold water to wash my silks. Shampoo is not no-rinse, but I find that it makes my silks a lot softer, and is effective at gently cleaning silk as it is a protein-based fiber just like hair.

This is good advice, except... After rolling your item in a clean towel, use another clean towel to flat-dry: towel #1 is damp so will prolong your item's drying-time.

Hi, is there a reason you prefer Soak over other silk detergents? I've spent literal hours trying to find out exactly how the no-rinse formulas work, and how it compares in cleaning power vs. other "delicates" detergents (e.g., Heritage Park, Le Blanc, Tide [Delicates, Free & Gentle, Regular...?!]). I'm sure that no-rinse formulas are gentler for delicate silks, but what about for items like pillowcases? I do know that some formulas break down fibers over time, but it also seems that time itself breaks down fibers over time hahah so I don't know how real of a worry that is for sleep masks and pillows and scrunchies. Sorry for being OTT, I very much appreciate your channel and your Insta!

Hello, love your videos, would this happen to work on a silk tie? I picked up a few 2nd hand and cleaning them seems to be quite tedious. Could I rinse them in a solution of water and woolite, then let it dry flat on a towel? The tie in questions is from Hugo Boss and Stefano Ricci.

I've got Nahmias matching shirt and shorts in Silk. They were around 900$ after taxes together, and do NOT want to ruin any portion at all, including tie off belt tie, and the buttons on the button down. Does this procedure work on all silk and all different types of clothing? (Ie: shirt, short, sock)

Yes! I recommend spraying the silk with 3% hydrogen peroxide and letting it air dry over night. You may need to do this a few times but in my experience, it works quite well :)

It damages the fibers in the silk keep in mind it’s an organic material consisting of proteins some silk weaves are very fragile compared to others
