I have always hand-washed my silks. I do it exactly like you, except I gently squeeze the water through, instead or dipping up and down, and do three rinses in the basin, changing the water each time. A specially-designed washing (low pH, no enzymes) product for silk is really important. Never use Woolite -it damaged or destroyed many of the first silk items I bought.

I have had bad experiences with dry cleaning silk so I only hand wash now. Hope you encourage others. Hand washing is quick and easy. If you suspend them on a drying rack they dry so quickly! My flat mesh rack folds up for storage and stacks with others of their own kind. It is made by XOX. A little steam or a careful iron while still a little damp and they are ready to go.

I recently found a beautiful red silk blouse at the thrift store. It said dry clean only but I hand washed it at home. A lot of red dye came out in the water. I see now that this shirt is not colorfast and needs dry cleaning in the future. I wanted to try a second-hand silk blouse first to see if I liked it before investing in an expensive one from Lily Silk. It took me over a year of thrifting to find one in great condition in my size and a color that looks good on me. I hope I love it and can order some new ones from Lily Silk that are hand washable. Thank you for the video Marie-Anne.

Bonjour Marie - Anne! What a pleasure to meet You today. Because of an allergic and very sensitive skin, I never dryclean anything that can touch my skin. I also wash my silk garments with a soap flakes for newborns or a delicate shampoo without sls, sles and similar. It may help other allergics, i thought. xoxo.

Silk lasts a long time. Every silk piece I bought has stayed in great condition even years later compared to many other fabric types. I wasn’t always gentle either and put them through the wringer. Hi Marie-Anne! I do the same as you with silk except I use the tub to rinse, changing the water after each rinse, until the water runs clear. I find it easier that way to see how clear the water is. I don’t trust dry cleaners because they use chemicals. Many years ago I took a silk blouse to a dry cleaner and it was never the same. I prefer a gentle approach with a wool and delicates washing liquid. I don’t know if we can get the same one here as you’ve shown. I love Lily Silk, ever since I saw it on your channel. The pink blouse you had in this video was gorgeous and the silk knit I must check out on the website. It must be beautiful and versatile to wear.

Very interesting video Madame, thankyou. A piece of trivia I found out why you can't bleach silk. A friend of mine did a textile course and apparently if you put silk in bleach it disintegrates the silk. I won't put my silk directly in the sun anymore, although I do usually dry it inside. It's probably very lucky I haven't ruined anything, lol.

I spin raw silk fibre into yarn, hand paint or dye it and use it to knit myself shawls, t shirts and sweaters. I always hand wash my silk items in warm water with a couple of drops of baby shampoo in it which seems to work well and not damage the silk yarn. I dry the items flat (blocked with pins for the shawls) and store them in paper bags in the wardrobe. Silk is such a fun fibre to work with and, if you're prepared to put the time into processing it yourself, quite inexpensive. It costs around £15 for enough silk fibre to make a lace weight sweater and you get to dye it the exact colours you like. Perfect for someone who loves the luxury of wearing silk but can't afford to spend too much!

I wash my Zimmermann and Alémais Silk by hand and i add some drops of white vinegar to the water because silk has tendency to produce calc between the silk fibres (which makes the silk feeling hard). Also to hang the items i use Inflatable clothes hangers because the hard wood hangers can leave bulges to silk / cashmere items 😊

I love handwashing..it’s therapeutic. I prefer Woolite in cold water...get some frothy bubbles going and gently work through after soaking. I roll to absorb excess water like u showed, then I lay out on a garment drying rack. I like to let heavier sweaters dry part-way then hang them so they’re not so heavy that they stretch out. I love how soothing and Zen the whole process is, and actually takes less time than doing a load in the washer. Ty for the lovely video....be safe💗💐
