I'm with you on the redline gear oil. I have an 07 FLSTC with 37k on it. I did the three hole service at 35k because I didn't know when the last service was. Went with the syn and the trans was noisy! After researching the redline seems to be one of the top choices so I changed to it after about 500 miles and the trans noise almost went away. Redline synthetic for the win. Love your channel, keep up the good work!

Good video,keep it simple. I run Amsoil in my transmission, but each to their own.I think the main point is to use quality oil and change at regular intervals.

The dipstick needs a shim washer to stop shearing in the partial thread slot on bolt.

( I also dont run synIII or red line) 85-140 Mobile One in my trans and primary has been doing better for me in the desert heat. Anyway, Hope you two get to ride soon. my owners manual and factory service manual both say do not screw in dip stick and check on the jiffy stand. 2007 electra with a 96ci. So who's correct ?

Always trust your owners manual over some random person on KZbin. 😀 I'm definitely no professional but this has worked for me for 50,000 miles without issue. I typically don't have a helper available when I'm doing this sort of stuff so you just have to do what works best in your situation. For me, that's checking it on the stand and rolling with it.

I checked the tranny fluid on a 08 Streetglide i bought. After putting maybe 2k miles on i checked it and i could barely see it it was so clear. It registered but it was like it was brand new. Guy said he changed it before i bought it, but it literally looks brand new. I was expecting some color. Im guessing he maybe used syn 3.

Hard to say. Syn3 is just motor oil so it has the typical amber color but it is slightly more clear. That’s another reason I like the redline, I know it’s there lol

Yeah there will be some variations between your M8 and my twin cam. Always follow your owners manual for capacities and any other specifics as well.

I’m a Amsoil fan. They had engine oil, primary oil, and Transmission oil. I haven’t seen anything negative Amsoil. Check out Amsoil on KZbin

I've stuck with the formula stuff for primary so far. I was going to switch but I read a lot of reviews about the clutch slipping a bit with it. Maybe I'll try it eventually.

@@hookdog8640 The bolt has threads missing for breather my guess a proper shim after oring will give it no where to squish out. FLH cop bikes here replaced that bolt as washer was lost in changes.

Harley changed oil change intervals higher to lower their " carbon footprint " for gov. regs.

I have a 2011 SG 103. TSB says only add 28oz and check it on the side stand, screwed in, just touching the o-ring at ambient temp… e.g. room temp. That’s the correct reading. The 2011 manual is not correct as it says do not screw it in and add 32 oz. The TSB was because oil was leaking out of the shift shaft seal so they cut it down to 28oz and screwed in at room temp to put the level right between the arrows on the dip stick. It puts it right between the arrows on the dip stick every time on mine. All bikes, even the same exact year, are slightly different. Check the dip stick. I use Belray 80W-90 Hypoid Gearsaver specifically made for motorcycles. Quiet and shifts nice. History at the dealer shows 2X or more the life of the trans on customer bikes that ride the hell out of them 40-50K miles a year. Just an observation. Buy a torque wrench. $35 on Amazon. While your at it buy liquid Teflon for pipe thread and clean the bolt good with brake clean, add it, used a new o-ring and oil the o-ring a drop to keep it from tearing on torque. Set between the arrows on the dip stick. No higher or lower at room temp. I use 17ft lbs on all drain plugs. Never had an issue.
