Hands down, sun dry your basil! So much more flavor than dehydrator even on lowest setting. I've dried herbs for years, last year my dehydrated was full so I put basil out on towels and covered with a tiny netting tent, like you cover food at a barbeque...😄 And WOW, so much more flavor!!!

nice tips! thank you! i do have one tip to get the bags "vacuum": when you nearly close the bag, dunk it in water with just the last inch of the bag dry, then close it up.

I dried my herbs last year. This year I've put them into my freezer. Love your cigar way and using the straw for doing that. Also, the one putting them into bags for drying in your car. Great tips - Thanks!

I chop my basil in my food processor with olive oil and put it in ice cube tray. After they are frozen I wrap each one in Saran wrap and freeze in a ziplock bag. Absolutely hands down the best way to do basil.

I’m impressed, Never thought of drying in a vehicle. Everyone can do this! Thanks for sharing, I love growing my own herbs too. It’s very economical and fun. A big bang for your effort. Also that car is pretty cool, the best looking dehydrator I’ve seen! 💕😂🎉

I cut the branches and hang them in a dark reasonably warm place. Once the branches are pretty dry, I cut some of the big branches off and put the herbs in paper bags for a few days. Then I put the herbs into jars and open the jar each day until the herbs go firm again and close, and do this for at least two weeks, until curing is done.

That works too!

Re: recipes w/o herbs It may depend on the region where the recipe originated. In Italy, they actually use very little seasoning in their cooking because the ingredients themselves-tomato, peppers, cheese, etc. have so much flavor. American-Italian cooking uses a lot of seasoning to compensate for the missing natural flavor.
@theladysgardenandhome2 жыл бұрын
That is a very good point. I still love my seasonings tho.

Thanks. Good video. Good drying. I use inexpensive 5 tier dehydrator and hanging method for garlic and some herbs. I use jars to keep herbs.
@theladysgardenandhome6 ай бұрын
Those dehydrators do an awesome job and I see alot of people use them to dry fruit and veggies too. If I had the space, I'd love one!
@donnabrown98976 ай бұрын
How long do you leave them in your car?
@theladysgardenandhome6 ай бұрын
I usually bring them in some time in the late fall. That’s usually when I get around to storing them. Unless I need the earlier than that. It takes a few weeks for them to dry completely.
