I always love your videos. Such an excellent reminder to not rush it & let young Tree Collards establish... (I have a few varieties I've been dying to taste, but definitely need to wait.

I received my "Michigan Tree Collard Seeds" about a month and a half ago, I think. I planted a few seeds in the greenhouse and they all germinated. I want to see how they grow indoors over winter in Zone 5 at 8,000ft elevation as an experiment. They are still tiny because they recently sprouted, but as of now they are doing very well. I look forward to planting more seeds in the springtime.

Hope you don't mind me asking but how did you start them? What temp?
@adamsoffgridadventure5 ай бұрын
@@arturoolmos8202 I started them in containers. I can't remember the exact temperature.

I have some seeds that I started and nothing has germinated and I was wondering if I needed to add more heat or less cause they are greens. I started mine in small pots.

I live in South Louisiana and yes I started them about 2 weeks ago. I started them indoors.

Pruned some stalks off my densest, thicccccest one. The dogs had almost girdled it over the summer. It responded by just getting stronger, lol. Planted 6 cuttings in pots in a cold frame, and had enough leaves to start a quart of kale-kraut. That'll be a fun experiment. Meanwhile, the one the dogs completely topped has sprouted from both the base and the top. Fingers crossed on that one. I tend to harvest by breaking the leaf stems. This keeps me from disturbing the new shoots that sprout at the base of the leaf stem. Maybe thats good? 🤷 My third plant is growing well, has a nice upright shape, looking like some kind of primeval dinosaur plant. All three are entering their 2nd full winter since being planted out late winter '21, grown from your seed. Good stuff 😊

yeah...dogs LOVE to eat tree collards! Mine never ate the live plants, but she loved what I fed her in the house or garage.

This is awesome! Looked because I have a young tree collard that I got from you. And I have been wondering about why mine had exact same white spots as it grew. Thanks so much!:)
@projecttreecollard6 ай бұрын
It could be powdery mildew or white fly. In my case, the minerals in the water leaves spots on all plants of any kind

Thanks for sharing with us! I am in Oregon (8b) and got homesteaders Kaleidoscope Perennial Kale Grex seed (Experimental Farm Network) and moved several of the kale of started across town with me last fall. One of the parents in the mix is tree collards - i just took a few cuttings from one (deer had discovered the patch😢) and will check out your videos on starting new plants. 🌱 🌱 🌱

Thank you so much. I’m still waiting for mine to grow. Planted about 20 cuttings of purple and green tree collards in small pots in early September they have small leaves but I’m not sure if they have roots yet.

I just saw a white spot on a leaf of my 2 month old purple tree collard. I'd followed your "oyster shell" and "azomite" transplant recipe so I figure maybe that was why? I transplanted them after their rooting about 45 days ago.
@projecttreecollard7 ай бұрын
no, your white spot (s) may be white fly or powdery mildew. Mine comes from the sprinkler water having super high magnesium and calcium.
@WynterDragon7 ай бұрын
I might have been too aggressive with my purple tree collard after watching this. It's pretty thick stemmed though, i planted it in the spring. I might need to do some topping on mine to encourage that bushing action.

What I’m hoping to do is start my plant (when I get it) indoors in bucket. And then Keep bugging my husband to plant outside where it will be accessible to me. I say all that to ask can they be grown that way (buckets indoors)?
