Hi Mel, I know some van makes have structural bars that you shouldn't drill in, let alone remove. Do van companies provide this information in the manual or do you have to request it?

The main crash protection rail in a van is the larger rail over the cab, which the bulkhead is usually bolted too. The main ones not to touch are this one, the one in the middle, and obviously the one over the rear doors. The intermediate rails, which are usually made with a thinner metal, such as the one Mel removed, are there to stop excess vibration and can be removed and have a skylight fitted. If you are installing a 'pop top' these kits should have a structual 'ring beam' that reinforces the roof structure once the original beams have been removed. If in any doubt, don't touch it, take it to a professional.👍😊

Hi Mel problem and wondered if you mite be able to help fitting a 5kw heater this wk ed and can't seam to get power to the control panel all seam easy but the control panel is just blank I did have to make the wire longer but can't see where this is the problem unless you know different lol help ,,,,,,,

How do Mel and Becky. I did already watch the video on Becky's channel-which I also follow and you did a great job fitting it but alway fun watching again on yours. I have thought about having one on Viv-i-van but it kills the stealth mode on her-and I am contemplating either ,along the line when financially viable to either trade her in for a bigger van or get a pop top fitted. Heki roof lights are great but even better if you fit a rubber strip on the top white plastic edge to cut down on wind noise-it used to be horrendous on ours on our motorhome. Bessy regs-Kenny

I got a fair bit of wind noise from mine so installed a car boot rubber seal around the edge, just slots on and works perfectly. I can send you a picture, if required👍

Just build your own system. Much cheaper, and you get much more battery storage. Plus when something breaks you just have to replace a single piece not your entire system...

Hi Mel I'm curious if van lifers are taking into consideration the push to remove fossil fuel cars but not only that but have you looked at the 15 minute city in Oxford.. there is also something about Leeds being a 20 minute one so 'they' are wanting to stop people's movement and it's going to really impede vanlife for people. This isn't just a UK thing you can look up Paris is also going the 15 minute route there are forces above government that are changing the way we live in a huge way.. well I suppose you could call it global governance just wondered what your thoughts are about it as they will be rolled out everywhere.
